Calls have been made to bring in an integrated single public transport ticket in Glasgow

Calls have been made for Glasgow City Council to introduce a single public travel ticket that works across buses and trains in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2026 - with the intention of making a permanent remodel.

A Labour councillor brought it up at a recent meeting, saying it would give “visitors coming to Glasgow peace of mind so they know they only need one ticket” to travel throughout the city.

Council leader Susan Aitken said it was not within the council’s direct control as it lies in the hands of public transport operators and the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport but said conversations are taking place with those organisations.

Another SNP councillor said that bringing in integrated ticketing on a permanent basis is ideal and using the Commonwealth Games or another major event as a milestone to work towards it would be welcome.

It was argued that integrated ticketing was brought in for delegates during COP26 though they argued this was only a concessionary scheme and changing the whole model would be far more comprehensive.

There are 14 delivery focus areas to improve travelling including walking, wheeling, cycling, and tougher crackdowns on illegal parking.
