00:00Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's claim that the opposition approached Barisan Nasional to discuss forming
00:06a new government will not impact the political stability of the unity government, says an
00:12analyst.
00:13Lao Tzu Wei from International Islamic University Malaysia said Zahid's statement would not
00:18be enough to concern the public or investors about the continuity of Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
00:25Asmi Hassan, a fellow at the National Professors' Council, said Zahid's statement was more
00:29of a reminder that the opposition might attempt to destabilise the government.
00:34He said even if BN leaves the coalition, it does not mean that the unity government will
00:39collapse as Anwar still holds a simple majority in parliament.
00:44Zahid had also claimed that BN would be offered the Prime Minister's post if it agreed to
00:49the proposal to leave the unity government.
00:52Several Perikatan national leaders later denied that the coalition had approached any party,
00:56including UMNO, to discuss the formation of a new government.
