00:00UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today that the party will remain loyal to the unity government
00:06until the next general election, despite calls from youth leader Dr. Akmal Saleh for the party
00:11to withdraw its support and shift to the opposition bloc.
00:15Zahid said that in yesterday's political bureau meeting,
00:19Akmal had presented the resolution reached at Saturday's special convention,
00:23which was openly discussed by UMNO's leadership.
00:26He said the party would not abandon its coalition partners in the Mandani government
00:32and dismissed PAS proposals that never materialised,
00:35referring to cooperation with PAS under Mofakat National.
00:40On Saturday, Akmal called for the party to withdraw its support for the unity government
00:44and join the opposition, citing repeated violations of red lines involving 3R matters
00:50pertaining to race, religion and royalty.
00:53Zahid said calls for cooperation with PAS through MN, which resurfaced following the
00:59political crisis in Perlis at the end of last year, must be carefully examined.
01:05Akmal had proposed that Perikatan National be dissolved and MN revived following the political
01:11turmoil in Perlis, a suggestion welcomed by PAS's information chief Ahmad Fadri Shaari,
01:17who said MN could be relaunched after UMNO and Barisan Nacional leave the unity government.
