00:05escalation of extortion threats in her constituency. In a statement today the MP
00:11says over the past few weeks numerous business owners have shared the harrowing
00:15accounts of threats to their safety and that of their families and employees.
00:20Mohit says this undermines the economic stability of her constituency and also
00:26the fundamental right of citizens to operate without fear of violence or
00:31retribution. Given that the government she says has a moral and constitutional
00:36duty to ensure the safety and security of each citizen she asks what are
00:41government strategies to address the rising tide of extortion in Chaguanas
00:46East and nationwide? How does government intend to strengthen the presence and
00:51capacity of law enforcement to protect the vulnerable business communities? What
00:57specific measures are being implemented to dismantle the criminal networks
