00:00Alec Baldwin had some strong opinions about American media during an appearance at the
00:04Turin Film Festival.
00:06Baldwin was present at the festival where he was the guest of honor as the recipient
00:10of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
00:12During the press conference, Baldwin got a little critical about Americans and media,
00:16at one point saying,
00:17You know what's going on from the news, but information in America is driven by money.
00:22It's a business.
00:23That's why there's a void in information on the biggest issues in the world.
00:27Americans know little or nothing on climate change, on Ukraine.
00:30That void is filled in part by the film industry, by documentaries and narrative films.
00:34Asked by The Hollywood Reporter about his concerns and hopes after the Trump administration
00:38takes office, Baldwin darts around the T-word with a generalized answer on Monday.
00:43There are many challenges to face, the environment, the problem of plastic, of permafrost.
00:47There are plastic molecules in every corner of the planet.
00:50These are the real problems to solve.
00:52However, throughout the press conference, there was no mention of his latest movie Rust
00:56or the tragic accident that cost the life of the film's cinematographer, Helena Hutchins,
01:00on set three years ago.
01:02When Baldwin, handling a prop pistol that was supposed to be loaded with blanks, accidentally
01:06fired the gun, he caused the death of the cinematographer.
01:10How the real bullet ended up in the barrel of the gun remains an unsolved mystery.
01:14During a trial over the incident, Baldwin was acquitted.
01:17The film had its world premiere at the Camerimage Film Festival and was warmly welcomed with
01:21a long applause.
01:22But Baldwin wasn't there.
01:24The actor appeared at this press conference on the condition that the movie and the tragic
01:28shooting would not be brought up at any point.
