00:00Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fazil has clarified Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's statement
00:06that the private sector partly covered the cost of his recent working visits to five countries.
00:12Fahmi said the government's delegation shared a chartered flight with the private sector
00:16representatives as this was more cost-effective than having the delegation fly on Putrajaya's
00:22Jet Premier 1. He said Putrajaya only covered the cost of its delegation while companies paid for
00:28their representatives. He said if the government delegation flew on Jet Premier 1 it would have
00:33cost 2.5 million ringgit. He said the chartered Malaysia Airlines plane cost a total of 6.16
00:41million ringgit of which 73% involved the private sector delegations cost. He said this meant the
00:48government's delegation incurred only 1.62 million ringgit saving over 900,000 ringgit.
00:54Yesterday Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat the companies such as Petronas, Sapura Energy,
01:00Yinsen and Proton covered 70% to 80% of the cost for his working visits to Egypt, Saudi Arabia,
01:07Peru, Brazil and Qatar. Opposition party MUDA later questioned how these firms were selected
01:14and whether there were any tangible benefits for these companies. Natasha Bust, FMT News.
