Mexican restaurant Boojum to open on New Street

A new restaurant is set to open on New Street, bringing activity to an area currently marked by empty units. We take a first look at how this addition could impact Birmingham's hospitality sector.

00:00So, we're Boojum, we are Mexican Burrito Bar and we are opening in Birmingham on New Street.

00:05So tonight we're inviting a lot of the local influencers, content creators and press down

00:10to our new store, try out our food and see what we're all about in advance of opening.

00:15Boojum was founded in Ireland in 2007, gaining a reputation that led to its expansion into

00:20Great Britain, with Birmingham chosen as a key location to open its latest store.

00:26So we started our GB expansion in April of this year and Birmingham was very high on

00:33that list of cities that we wanted to bring our food to.

00:36It's a great city, a real good energy around the city, there's a buzz, you feel tangible

00:42and there's obviously a really good food scene as well.

00:45I had the chance to try Boojum's food myself, sampling their signature burrito.

00:50It's clear why this concept has resonated in other cities, however it's a difficult time

00:55for the hospitality industry, rising costs have hit hard, leaving questions about how

01:00some continue to thrive in such turbulent times.

01:05In terms of food businesses, for us, how we feel like we'll combat that is by offering

01:09value.

01:10So we really feel that our proposition offers real value to diners and the main reason for

01:15that is our famous portion sizes.

01:17We are known for our portion sizes, we serve massive burritos, big bowls and they will

01:21keep you full all day.

01:23Although it's still early days, the reception tonight has been encouraging.

01:28Influencers seemed impressed with the food and lively atmosphere, suggesting Boojum could

01:33make a strong impact in Birmingham.

01:36We've had a massive reception from Birmingham.

01:39So we announced the store just over eight weeks ago and the response has been phenomenal.

01:44So lots of positive comments across our socials and across the socials of some of the media

01:49partners that we've worked with.

01:50Lots of excitement, there's some familiarity in the city of Boojum already and we're just

01:56really keen to get the doors open now and start serving those burritos.
