Puppy's Rescuer's Finally Figure Out Why He's Scared

The moment they finally figure out what's wrong. We talked to Chewy's foster mom, who told us about his mystery symptoms, and the day that everything started to change.

00:00He was slumped over.

00:04I definitely think Chewy was scared in the shelter.

00:09He was in the back of the shelter, and everyone else was coming to the front.

00:16And his eyes were so human-like.

00:19They just looked like they were looking at the depths of your soul.

00:24And there was just something that the team saw, and they were like, we have to call this

00:29When we got Chewy, he was a broken little soul.

00:33In hindsight, I think he was actually not feeling well at all.

00:38We put him in the volunteer's car, and then he went to his foster home.

00:43He wouldn't eat in the beginning.

00:46He just stayed in his pen area at the foster's.

00:52He would really only eat if someone left the room.

00:55So we knew right away something wasn't quite right.

00:59There was some sort of emotional abuse.

01:05He was not feeling well.

01:06He did have an upper respiratory infection.

01:10His upper respiratory infection cleared up, and he still wasn't feeling right.

01:16He was ravenous, so hungry, so thirsty all the time, peeing all the time.

01:23I was like, we have to get Chewy in immediately.

01:27We need to figure out what's going on with him.

01:32As soon as Chewy was diagnosed with diabetes, although it was sad, it was such a relief.

01:38We immediately put him on insulin.

01:41He had a little glucose monitor on his body.

01:45You're so sweet.

01:49After the first insulin dose, his personality started to shine through.

01:56He started to become so strong, and he lit up being outside.

02:03He never wanted to come back inside.

02:05I will never forget, I was sitting on the couch watching a movie, and he popped out

02:11of the X-Pen and just sat at my feet.

02:13It was the most incredible moment, because I was like, he feels safe.

02:18He went from peeing on himself, because he was so scared of humans, to wanting love and

02:23affection from every human that walked by.

02:27There was no such thing as personal space.

02:29Chewy, I have to tell you something.

02:32Did you know that you got adopted, and you're going to go to Washington?

02:37Yeah.

02:40Within 10 minutes of talking to DeeDee, I was like, this is his home.

02:47He went right up to her and gave her a kiss, like, oh, yeah, I know you.

02:52It was so magical to witness.

02:55Honey, you're so beautiful, I can't believe it.

02:58As soon as I saw Morris, I knew he was perfect.

03:01Like I was already in love with him.

03:03Hi, Mo.

03:04Come here.

03:05Morris, hi, good morning.

03:09He's come so far, it's amazing.

03:12Every day he gets more safe and comfortable.

03:16Mo has been a perfect addition to our home.

03:18He fits in so great.

03:21I feel so lucky that they picked me for him.

03:24It was like a meeting of the souls.
