Man dies after being struck by car in Perth suburb of Bayswater

A 52-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in the Perth suburb of Bayswater in what police are calling a traumatic incident for all involved. Police say the driver was seen acting erratically in the lead up to the incident and had two young children in the car.

00:07Police were called at about 11am.

00:10They say a silver Commodore struck a 52-year-old pedestrian on Rose Avenue.

00:15He later died in hospital.

00:17A man in his 30s is in custody.

00:20Police arrived shortly after and rendered immediate first aid to the injured man and

00:25apprehended the driver of the vehicle.

00:27Police say the two kids in the car during the incident were unharmed.

00:31While we're working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, it's

00:35believed the driver of the silver Commodore was seen acting erratically in the area, potentially

00:40armed with a knife.

00:42Bayswater resident Wayne Small says the same vehicle crashed into a parked car opposite

00:47his house moments earlier.

00:49The guy in the silver Commodore, he got out with a machete and started threatening the

00:55guy.

00:56The driver of the ute stayed in the car during the alleged attack.

01:00Nearby workers also reported being threatened.

01:03The knife was that much bigger.

01:07Yeah, it's like, we were scared when we saw him.

01:10He's taken off towards the station and I could tell by the state of the car he wasn't going

01:14to get far.

01:15It was a real mess.

01:16Police say they're still trying to piece together the sequence of events.
