02:53So we were talking about Carver High believes that you can win a Stanley Cup now with an

03:02You do not need a great goaltender to win the Stanley Cup.

03:06And I had my druthers on that answer.

03:08I don't oppose his view.

03:11He rattled off Bennington and Kemper and Logan and Thompson and these guys, Matt Murray winning

03:17a couple of Stanley Cups.

03:20We could go on and on with goalies.

03:23But do you believe the league has changed?

03:25I went to the Penguin game the other night in Pittsburgh on Saturday night, and they

03:29are horrible.

03:35They have no talent at all besides Grosby, Mugg and Letang and maybe Rust, have no goaltending.

03:42And some fans told me leaving the game, Sullivan sucks, they got to fire him.

03:46I'm like, he won two Stanley Cups, they have no talent.

03:48What do you want him to do?

03:50How do you feel about the NHL today with regards to goalies?

03:55I honestly think it's more about the system.

03:58Like I know what Carver High is bringing to the table here, and it makes a lot of sense.

04:01But like, show me a good goalie, show me a good system, that conversation.

04:05I think it's a fair thing to bring up because then even like you look at Sergey Bobrovsky

04:09for all these years, we're like, this is the worst contract in hockey.

04:12And look at what he did last spring, look what he did the year before, right?

04:14He was incredible.

04:15Obviously, a big reason why the Florida Panthers finally pushed through in the Stanley Cup

04:19playoffs and win a Stanley Cup.

04:21So like, I don't think there's a perfect science to it.

04:23But I think in a salary cap world, if you can get a goalie that makes two, three million

04:28bucks per season and excel in your system, I think you're sitting pretty.

04:32But if you're asking me right now, if I want an Aiden Hill or an Andrei Vasilevsky in the

04:36Stanley Cup final, I will go with Vassie.

04:38But I understand the reasoning behind it, man, the salary cap, right?

04:42You want, if you can get a guy cheap on the value, I think it's great.

04:47So I was at the game and a guy, we started talking about the Vegas Knights and the Dallas

04:55Stars.

04:56And he said to me that, you know, Vegas is better than Dallas.

05:00And I was like, yeah, I'm not so sure about that.

05:04And then Carver High backed it up by saying, if you look at the last five years, they're

05:07better than Dallas.

05:08Dallas is a really good team that never wins anything.

05:11And Vegas won a Stanley Cup.

05:13Do you think Vegas is better than Dallas these days?

05:16I mean, the record says they are.

05:17Their points.

05:181,000 percent.

05:20I will just add to the equation to like Dallas is your prototypical team that's been there

05:24in the Stanley Cup playoffs and can't push through.

05:27And there's a variety of different examples, whether it's Edmonton, whether it's Vegas,

05:30whether it's others where you're knocking on that door, but you can't push through.

05:34So I think there's still a bit of hope.

05:35They got the goaltending, they got the back end.

05:38Some of the youngsters have really struggled to start this season.

05:41But I think it's hard to dispute that just because Vegas won a Stanley Cup, right?

05:46I mean, they're right there, got the job done.

05:49And year after year, they've been pretty consistent in the regular season.

05:52There's just a lot of gamers on that roster.

05:54So I think almost by default, because they finally pushed through and won a Stanley Cup

05:59and all those conference finals appearances, I have to go with Vegas in that debate.

06:03So Carver High, I forget what he said to me today about the Leafs.

06:07He said that they were either gutless or worthless or wussy, something along those

06:14lines.

06:15You know, I was, I drank for several days in Pittsburgh and went to the Steeler game.

06:21I just said in the last hour that the Dragon was catching up to me.

06:25I was seeing double at one segment during the show today.

06:29I don't know exactly what he said to me, but you're there in Toronto.

06:33It's been so long since they've been able to finish and win something that matters like

06:38the Stanley Cup.

06:39Do you think they're spineless?

06:41No, I think there's a reason why I grew this mustache to take it back 40 years or whatever

06:47it is.

06:48I, I'm always, you know, it's always difficult to answer this question because they can come

06:53out and rifle off, you know, 110 point season and lose in seven games in the first round

06:58of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

06:59It's just been hard for the course.

07:01Having said that, it is a process.

07:03Craig Bruby's system is a lot different than Sheldon Keefe.

07:07Defensively speaking, they're, they're way more in tune with what they're doing.

07:11You know, consistency has been an issue early on in the season, but through 19 games, they

07:15have 11 wins, six losses, you know, two have gone to extra time as well.

07:19So like, I think the body of work suggests this is a much different looking team, but

07:24I wish I could answer this question for you better, but I think until playoff time, we

07:29just won't know.

07:30Having said that, I do like the additions.

07:32I think the crease looks really, really good right now with Anthony Stolarz and Joseph

07:35Wall.

07:36I think they made some really good improvements on the back end, whether it's Oliver Ekman

07:40Larson coming in, he's look really good.

07:41Chris Tanev is a shot blocking machine.

07:44And then up front, they're being really challenged right now via injury.

07:47We found out earlier today, Austin Matthews is in Munich talking to doctors.

07:51I mean, it's never a good sign on that front, but some of the guys they've picked up have

07:55really, really helped off.

07:56We'll see.

07:57We'll see come playoff time if this is a different Leafs team, because that hasn't been the story

08:01with the squad in recent memory.

08:04They get the job done in the regular season playoffs, a different story.

08:07So he's like hanging out with the doctors that Christian McCaffrey went to see over

08:12there and drinking steins of beer.

08:15What do you think this does to Ovi's chances, this injury after as hot as he's been?

08:21I'm never counting Alex Ovechkino.

08:23It really is bittersweet because he's been on such a hot tear and now he's week to week.

08:28And when they say week to week, it's never just one week.

08:31I thought it was cool.

08:32I thought there was a big time shot.

08:34He would get there this year now.

08:36Not so much.

08:37It's amazing how your opinion can change in 24 short hours.

08:39But I can't doubt this guy because he's been doing it for years.

08:42And that's the ironic part about this man is the fact that he doesn't miss games.

08:46So it tells you if he has to miss games, it's probably pretty serious.
