Birmingham's King's Norton Old Grammar School, once targeted by suffragettes, has been added to this year's Heritage at Risk Register. The annual list highlights historic sites needing urgent preservation. We'll look at its history and the efforts underway to save it.

00:07Heritage at Risk Register. This half-timbered building has a rich and varied history. Originally
00:13built as a priest's house, it was remodelled in the 17th century and later became a school.
00:19In 1913, the site was targeted by suffragettes during a wave of militant protests for women's
00:25voting rights. The Heritage at Risk Register provides an annual update on the condition
00:30of historic buildings across England. This year, 155 new sites have been added, including
00:3621 in Birmingham alone, while 124 others have been rescued. Efforts to preserve Kings Norton
00:43Old Grammar School are underway, supported by a grant from Historic England to make the
00:48building watertight. There are hopes it will become part of a heritage building skills
00:53learning centre, ensuring its future and continued community use.
