After bringing dangerous flooding to Central America, including Honduras,
00:04
Sarah has lost a lot of that wind intensity and has been designated a tropical rainstorm
00:10
by AccuWeather hurricane experts. Sarah will bring heavy rain to portions of the Gulf Coast
00:14
early this week, but before we get to some of those details, we head to Bernie Rayno
00:17
and AccuWeather lead hurricane expert Alex Da Silva with an important Atlantic hurricane season update.
00:25
Alex, we're getting to the end of November. What a November we've had.
00:30
Two hurricanes. I'm sorry, one hurricane and two tropical storms.
00:35
Yeah, it's certainly been very impressive. And at the end of October, we told everybody that
00:39
we were expecting a pretty busy November. We were forecasting one to three named systems
00:44
during the month of November. And lo and behold, here we are. We've seen three named storms. But
00:49
I have some good news. I think we're done with the U.S. impacts beyond what happens here with
00:54
tropical rainstorms, Sarah. So I think we're kind of bringing it to the end of the 2024 tropical
01:00
season. Yeah, take a look at the satellite, Alex. You can see a frontal boundary all the way down
01:06
in toward the Lesser Antilles. That means that front has penetrated pretty far south. And that's
01:11
one of the reasons you think, well, we're likely to be done with any landfalling systems in the U.S.
01:18
Yeah, and when that happens, we get a lot of wind shear. And that's typically why,
01:21
especially in the back half of November, we really start to shut down the Atlantic hurricane season.
01:26
A lot of wind shear. And you can see on the graph here, we're very, very low, very low to the bottom
01:31
here. So I don't expect any more U.S. impacts besides a little bit of rain from Sarah, which
01:36
is good news. We could get a rogue storm way out in the middle of the Atlantic. But in terms of U.S.
01:41
impacts, I think we're done.
01:48
Alex Silva said it. I think we are done. And now we do still have tropical impacts to deal with as
01:56
what is left of Sarah, that tropical rainstorm makes its way further north and makes its way
02:00
further east. Now, as this storm or what's left of it, it's going to churn up a lot of water and
02:07
it's going to move it onto shore. And unfortunately, we're going to start to see some of that big
02:13
impact from Sarah when it comes to the flooding here arriving by Tuesday morning, spreading
02:18
through the southeast, even through Wednesday. Those arrival times are when the heaviest rain
02:23
is going to hit. And you can see here where we have this darker green blob along the central
02:28
Gulf Coast. We could see upwards of two to four inches. This could prove to be a dangerous
02:33
situation along I-10 or at least around those corridors. And while we could see upwards of 50
02:40
inches in your actual local storm XO, an isolated area could get hammered with the heavy rain. So we
02:46
are on the lookout here as we do head into Wednesday. We do have that some impact here to
02:54
lives and property that risks the lives and property with that heavy rain was
02:58
heavy rain risk and also the gusty winds, rough seas, though, and rip currents. Your
03:04
real impact scale, though, for the U.S. at a one. But why do we have that some? It's because
03:09
of this heavy rain. We mentioned it a little earlier. We're going to see that push of tropical
03:13
moisture Monday night through Tuesday night. So about 24 hour time frame. This is when it's going
03:21
to get quite yucky here across the central Gulf Coast and even pushing further inland to Montgomery.
03:27
But we could really use the rain. In fact, across this area, we have been dry, but we don't want it
03:32
to come down so hard and so fast. Your actual local storm XO could see upwards to 12 inches.
03:38
And right behind this, we have this high pressure settling in across East Texas Thursday into Friday.
03:44
We're going to be blowing in much cooler air for the southeast. It's going to be the chilliest
03:48
air of the season, in fact. So with the rain first coming and then, of course, the chill,
03:53
we're running about five to 15 degrees below where we typically sit for this time of year.
