A Liverpool city centre food hall has closed its doors 'with immediate effect'. The GPO in The Metquarter opened in 2021. It has beenthe largest food hall in the city, with 11 independent vendors. But, after three years in business, the food market has now closed its doors for good.

00:05The GPO, which was located in the Met Quarter, opened in 2021.

00:09Located at the Victoria Street entrance adjacent to the Everyman Cinema, the GPO was the largest

00:14food hall in the city with 11 independent vendors offering a host of different cuisines.

00:19But after three years in business, the food market is now closed for good.

00:23In a statement, a spokesperson for the Met Quarter said the food hall closed with immediate

00:28effect on November 7th and is believed to have been put into liquidation by the operator's

00:34parent company, Blend Family.

00:37The owners of the shopping centre added,

00:39Despite our best efforts to support GPO, the business has not performed to the level expected.

00:46There are a combination of reasons for this.

00:49We still see Met Quarter as a significant leisure and food destination within the city

00:54centre.

00:55The GPO, Liverpool's website and social media accounts have all been removed.
