00:56
Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resursos Studios in
01:00
Havana, Cuba.
01:01
We begin with the news.
01:17
In Cuba, the government remains vigilant of the earthquakes of 6 and 6.7 that shook the
01:22
southern coast of the island and other Caribbean nations on November 10.
01:25
Cuban authorities reported no fatalities, but at least seven people were injured, as
01:29
well as damage to houses and streets.
01:31
Likewise, the National Seismological Service said that about 885 aftershocks and more than
01:37
36 reports of perceptible tremors were registered in the province of Granma.
01:41
So far, seismic activity continues to be monitored to identify any other similar phenomena.
01:46
In Santiago de Cuba province, work and school activities were assumed as normal, as the
01:51
authorities confirmed safety conditions.
01:55
The Jamaica Meteorological Service is on alert Tuesday for a tropical wave, which due to
02:04
conditions in the Caribbean Sea could develop into a tropical cyclone.
02:07
The tropical wave is slow-moving and is influencing Hispaniola, so it could be in Jamaica by Tuesday
02:15
or Wednesday.
02:16
According to the entity, the projections are for cloudy conditions with periods of showers
02:20
and thunderstorms, which could be strong at times, to affect specially south and northwest
02:25
of the country through Wednesday night.
02:27
The tropical wave could merge with a broad area of low pressure across the southwestern
02:31
Caribbean Sea, giving it a 50% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next seven days.
02:43
And in Colombia, the disaster risk management unit sent the first 10,000 food kits to the
02:48
Department of ChocĂł, which was recently hit by heavy rains and severe flooding.
02:52
The entity activated operational tasks including the Army, Police, Navy, Air and Space Force,
02:57
Civil Defense, Firefighters and Red Cross to attend to the emergency in that territory.
03:02
In the same vein, and with resources from the Collective Investment Fund, the national
03:06
government allocated some $625,000 to attend to the damage caused by the rainy season in
03:11
the communities of ChocĂł.
03:13
According to official data, 25 of the 31 municipalities in this department have suffered
03:17
some type of damage, and at present more than 30,000 families have been affected.
03:29
And Colombian authorities reported this November 11 that the San José Mulatos volcano erupted,
03:34
located in the Department of Antioquia in the northwest of the country.
03:37
The San José Mulatos volcano emitted a flare of fire at approximately 700 hours local time,
03:42
which triggered a cloud of smoke in the area.
03:45
Technical Director of the Colombian Geological Service, John Macario, reported that these
03:50
volcanoes have very small and restricted eruptions.
03:53
Secretary General of San Pedro de Uraba, Alexander González, reported that the expulsion of
03:58
volcanic material fell towards the sites of the municipalities of Necocli.
04:02
The Governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, indicated that the Department of
04:06
Risk Management was already aware of the emergency.
04:13
And on November 11, world leaders and parties gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 29th
04:20
session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on
04:23
Climate Change, with the aim of reaching crucial climate agreements.
04:27
According to the organizing committee, delegations attending COP29 will work to achieve inclusive
04:32
and sustainable outcomes.
04:34
From November 11 to 22, 2024, COP29 will seek to push forward agreements among countries
04:40
to limit global temperature rise to less than 1.5 degrees and boost sustainable societies
04:45
and economies.
04:46
The central event of the conference will be the Global Summit for Climate Action, scheduled
04:50
for November 12 and 13.
04:59
And in Haiti, entrepreneur Alex Didier Foussaint was sworn on November 11 as new prime minister
05:05
following the removal of Gary Coneo, who described the move as illegal and unconstitutional.
05:11
In a ceremony held in Port-au-Prince, Foussaint was sworn in at a gathering led by the President
05:17
of the Transitional Council, Leslie Voltaire.
05:19
Foussaint called for joint efforts in the face of the problems affecting the country
05:25
amid new threats from Pluto's gangs.
05:27
In this regard, he said the first essential task is to restore security for the people,
05:32
infrastructure, and food, as well as freedom of movement throughout the country.
05:42
And now we have our first short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on

06:03
Welcome back.
06:15
The United Nations approved a Russian resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism.
06:20
The vote was supported by 116 countries, while 54 countries voted against, including Germany,
06:25
Canada, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and the United States.
06:29
Meanwhile, 11 countries abstained.
06:32
This resolution aims to reject the glorification of totalitarian regimes, particularly the
06:36
Nazi regime, and the denial of its crimes, including the Holocaust.
06:40
It also seeks to condemn the rehabilitation of figures and symbols associated with Nazism,
06:45
as well as the justification of its crimes, calling on countries to avoid historical distortion,
06:50
especially in relation to war crimes committed during the Second World War.
07:01
In Lebanon, a new attack by the Israeli occupation army resulted in the death of at least 14
07:19
people in the Akkar region, in north of the country.
07:22
Authorities reported that the targets of the attacks were homes in the town of Ein Jakob,
07:26
12 kilometers from the Syrian border, which is also an area where Israeli attacks are
07:30
rare.
07:31
Syrians and displaced Lebanese residents are reported to be among the dead and wounded,
07:35
while rescue teams continue the search for people trapped under rubble.
07:39
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said 54 people have died in the last 24 hours,
07:43
bringing the death toll to 3,243 since October 2003, including 201 children.
07:52
In Palestine, at least 10 people were killed by an Israeli occupation army bombardment
08:01
on a humanitarian area in the Gaza Strip.
08:03
The new attack took place on the night of November 11, when drones launched missiles
08:07
at people sitting in a field coffee located in Al-Mawassi, an area in southern Gaza designated
08:13
as safe by Israeli forces.
08:17
Paramedics and civilians transferred several wounded to Nasser Hospital in Hanounis.
08:24
On the other hand, Wafa News Agency reported that amid heavy shelling, Israeli forces on
08:29
Tuesday surrounded a school that houses 130 displaced families in the town of Beit Hanoun.
08:35
Since last October 7, 2003, 43,603 people have been killed as a result of Israel's
08:41
genocidal offensive against the Gaza Strip.
08:47
And the Finance Minister of Israel, Bezalel Smatresk, ordered preparations for the annexation
08:56
of the occupied West Bank before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January 2025.
09:02
Smatresk requested on Monday the start of professional work to prepare the necessary
09:07
infrastructure to pursue Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.
09:11
On a meeting in the Nesset, the far-right minister congratulated on Trump's presidential
09:15
victory.
09:16
In addition, he assured to be hopeful about the new Washington administration would support
09:20
Israel in its annexation plans.
09:22
Meanwhile, Nabil Aburriyeh, spokesperson for the Palestinian Presidency, stated Smatresk
09:27
statements defy international law and held the Zionist authorities responsible for the
09:31
repercussions of these dangerous policies.
09:42
In a wake after Donald Trump's electoral victory in the U.S. presidential elections,
09:45
hundreds of activists took to the streets in several cities across the country to reject
09:49
the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the president-elect, who promised massive deportations on the first
09:54
day of his return to the White House.
09:56
In New York City, thousands of people gathered in the vicinity of the Trump Tower and walked
10:00
through the streets and avenues showing their dissatisfaction with the deportation policies
10:04
announced by the next occupant of the White House.
10:07
In this context, in the city of Los Angeles, a crowd made up mainly of women of Mexican
10:11
origin marched against the deportation of undocumented immigrants, arguing that if these
10:16
new policies implemented, more than 10 million people will be severely affected.
10:28
Now with the change of government, many legal problems are coming to us.
10:32
But more to the undocumented people.
10:34
They don't have the right to a retirement.
10:35
There are no documents for them to retire, for there to be something beneficial.
10:39
People who have been here for more than 15, 20, 25, 30, even 40 years, because we haven't
10:45
had a legalization for almost 40 years.
10:49
The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ratified the Strategic Partnership
10:53
Treaty with Russia.
10:55
In a statement released by local media, it was noted that the Strategic Partnership Treaty
10:58
with Russia was signed on November 11, 2024.
11:01
and the decree of the President for State Affairs of the People's Republic in Pyongyang
11:05
on June 19, 2024.
11:07
In this regard, the treaty contains provisions on mutual defense in case of armed attack
11:12
by one of several states.
11:13
The countries also signed agreements related to the health sector.
11:26

Close to 70 countries around the world participated on Monday in the Global South Media Think
12:04
Tank Forum held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
12:07
The meeting welcomed 350 representatives of 170 organizations, companies, journalists,
12:11
governments, among others, to address common realities and challenges in order to consolidate
12:16
a platform for cultural exchange and cooperation.
12:19
China and Brazil, as organizers of the forum, sent a message to the attendees highlighting
12:24
the fundamental role of the nations of the Global South in the current contemporary scenario.
12:29
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a letter to the forum expressing his country's willingness
12:34
to promote multilateralism and to advocate an equitable and orderly multipolarity in
12:39
the world.
12:47
And in Lima, Peru, more than 13,000 police officers are being prepared for the Asia-Pacific
12:52
Economic Cooperation Summit.
12:53
The Peruvian government plans to guarantee the security of the summit, which is taking
12:57
place this week in Lima.
12:59
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, and China, Xi Jinping, are heading the meeting
13:04
of the forum, which brings together the leaders of 21 economies that represent 60% of global
13:09
GDP.
13:10
The Interior Minister reported that the security arrangements include facial recognition equipment,
13:14
anti-drone systems, and a bomb disposal robot.
13:16
Prior to the police deployment, the Congress authorized the entry of 600 soldiers from
13:21
the United States to support the government in security tasks.
13:32
Argentina vetoed this November 11th United Nations resolution that recognizes the need
13:36
to respect and promote the rights of indigenous peoples.
13:40
Argentina, a country where there are 58 communities of indigenous peoples, according to its 2022
13:47
It was the only one of the 168 countries to vote against a resolution that seeks to strengthen
13:53
the rights of indigenous communities in areas such as justice, environment, and preservation
13:58
of ancestral languages and traditions.
14:00
The resolution, denied by the government of Javier Millet, establishes that indigenous
14:04
peoples are entitled to the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms recognized
14:10
in the United Nations Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and international human rights
14:15
standards, like as right to non-discriminatory and self-discrimination.
