00:40A Belgian code reopens a lawsuit filed by several organizations against the state for its inaction
00:45in the face of the genocide and war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.
00:55Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De Lesos Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:01We begin with the news.
01:15The Russian oil tanker Anatoly Golovkin arrived in Cuba on Monday,
01:19where it remains waiting to be unloaded at the port of Matanzas, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
01:25The vessel is carrying approximately 100,000 tons of oil classified as humanitarian aid amid a severe energy crisis affecting
01:32the Caribbean island.
01:33The cargo set sail to the island on March 9th under the Russian flag and without a military escort.
01:38In addition, the tanker was initially accompanied by a Russian Navy warship through the English Channel.
01:43However, after entering the Atlantic, the ship continued its journey on its own until its arrival in Cuba.
01:50This operation represents, according to reports, the first arrival of a tanker on the island in three months.
01:54The move comes after the United States pressured Venezuela and Mexico to hold energy supplies to Cuba.
02:00As a result, the island has not received oil since January 9th,
02:03which has led to a sustained deterioration of the energy system and hardships for the population,
02:07which depends on fuel for essential services and the functioning of the economy.
02:18In this sense, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed in an interview that Cuba will be next
02:22and that he is not concerned that the island receives Russian oil as it needs it to survive.
02:29We have a tanker out there. We don't mind having somebody get a boatload because they need, they have to
02:35survive.
02:36Cuba is going to be next. Cuba is going to be, Cuba is a mess. It's a failing country and
02:41they're going to be next.
02:42Within a short period of time, it's going to fail. And we will be there to help it out.
02:49We'll be there to help our great Cuban Americans out.
02:55Brazil's Landless Rural Workers Movement, or MST, took time out from its national meeting to show solidarity for the historic
03:02ally, Cuba.
03:04Our correspondent Bernie Vermeer has more.
03:07During the MST, or Landless Rural Workers Movement's National Assembly for Urban Political Organization,
03:14the over 1,000 members from across the country took time out from the debates and meetings to plant trees.
03:19In a symbolic event showing solidarity for Palestine and Cuba.
03:25Cuba needs our solidarity. The Cuban people may be the people who have shown the most solidarity in the history
03:32of humanity.
03:33At least that is what I see in the social and political literature.
03:38This nation has shown solidarity for the whole world, with its doctors, its nurses, and its engineers.
03:45And it also helped in the African liberation struggles when it defended countries like Angola and Zimbabwe.
03:51And now these people are humbly asking for our solidarity.
03:55The MST has had positive interactions with the revolutionary government of Cuba for over 40 years.
04:02Cuba has given hundreds of scholarships to medical school, to residents of MST agrarian reform settlements.
04:08And in 2006, the Castro administration helped it develop and roll out an adult literacy program.
04:15The MST has been an historic presence, helping us in Cuba now, when we really need this help from friends.
04:25The MST is helping Cuba by sending medicine, and the MST is helping Cuba in food production.
04:36The MST is helping us here in Brazil and in Cuba to strengthen bilateral relations between Cuba and Brazil, and
04:44Cuba and the MST.
04:47During a brutal hybrid war attack from the imperialist United States, the MST is working to show material solidarity with
04:54the people of Cuba,
04:56while reminding the world of its ongoing importance in the struggle against imperialism.
05:04The Cuban Revolution inspires us to keep going, even with the United States sanctions, even with the blockade.
05:16They are still resisting at all costs, to maintain their sovereignty and their way of life.
05:22This is an example, not just for Brazil and the MST, but for people around the world.
05:29Internationalizemos esperanza!
05:31The MST's National Assembly will continue until March 30th.

05:41Welcome to Holy Week with the great tradition of Palm Sunday Mass, held at Paseo Los Procederes in the capital.
05:49The Catholic community of Venezuela began Holy Week on Sunday with a solemn Mass.
05:53In this regard, the ceremony led by priest Numa Molina was also attended by national government officials.
05:58This celebration marks the beginning of religious activities that will spread throughout the country until next Resurrection Sunday.
06:13And in this context, Venezuela's acting president, Osorriguez, called on the nation to pray for peace and reconciliation.
06:23Today, on Palm Sunday, we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem before his crucifixion and resurrection.
06:33In this procession that Venezuela is experiencing today, in its reunion among families, among Venezuelans, I ask that popular faith
06:44be the pillar of this process.
06:47And that we may ask Jesus for peace, for reunion, for reconciliation, for social justice, and for the most sacred
06:59things we have in our homeland, independence and freedom.
07:04Happy Palm Sunday to all Venezuelans.
07:09You know, our first break coming up, we're going to be right back.
07:38Welcome back.
07:39U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally announced the passage of 20 ships through the Strait of Hormuz following weeks of
07:45attacks against Iran.
07:47In this regard, according to Trump, Iran has authorized the passage of 20 oil tankers that are already sailing through
07:52the center of the Strait.
07:53In this context, Iran has exercised its sovereignty over the Strait without completely blocking passes through the maritime route for
07:59countries around the world,
08:00with only restrictions on U.S. and Israeli interests as a legitimate response to aggressions against its territory.
08:12Meanwhile, Iran has denied U.S. President Trump's allegations regarding a supposed agreement that would allow 20 ships to pass
08:19through the Strait of Hormuz and escalates attacks on its interests in the Gulf.
08:23On Monday, Iranian officials say that every time Washington talks about peace, war intensifies.
08:29The President of Parliament, Mohamed Bagheer Ghalibaf, warned Washington directly about a land invasion, pointing out its illegality as it
08:36does not have the authorization of Congress.
08:38He also said that it would destroy their electoral aspirations as the losses would be enormous.
08:43Meanwhile, the Iranian army is carrying out defensive operations against U.S. and Israeli interests in the Persian Gulf and
08:49warning its officials and collaborators that their residences have become military targets following an attack on densely populated areas in
08:56the south and north of the Persian nation on Sunday.
09:03Also, President Trump openly admitted his intention to take possession of Iran's oil.
09:08In a recent interview, the U.S. President stated that it would be illogical for the United States not to
09:12take control of Iran's resources.
09:14This is not the first time Trump has suggested direct control over foreign resources.
09:18The recent statements come after he has asserted on multiple occasions that his intention in attacking Iran was to guarantee
09:23the security of the United States and not to declare that he would achieve a fast military victory over the
09:29Islamic Republic.
09:35And Tehran denounced that Washington is preparing a ground operation against it while publicly advocating dialogue.
09:40This fact exposes the criminal record of the United States and Israel in their aggressions against Iranian soil.
09:46From the Iranian parliament, its president, Mohammad Bagar-Galibaf, warned that the people are ready to face any incursion and
09:53assured that the aggressors would be definitely punished if they attempted to enter Iranian territory.
09:58For his part, the spokesman for the headquarters of Iran's main military command, Ebrahimi Soufagadi, confirmed that the Iranian armed
10:06forces are prepared to respond to any U.S. ground operation.
10:09The complaint comes after a month of attacks initiated on February 28, 2026, in which the U.S. and Israel
10:15sought to end Iran's nuclear program, reduced the country's military capabilities, and paved the way for a popular uprising that
10:21would overthrow the Islamic Republic, following crimes such as the assassination of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
10:26In this sense, Iran has responded with firmness, defending its territorial integrity and striking at invading bases in the region.
10:33It is important to remember that this illegal war has left a telephone in Iran that already exceeds 1,900,
10:39as well as more than 20,000 injured, alongside episodes of extreme cultists such as the bombing of the Grove
10:45School in Minab, where the number of young martyrs rose to 180.
10:48It is important also to mention that reports suggest that Washington is considering taking control of the Iranian island of
10:53Yark, an action that would seek to strangle the Persian economy.
10:57It should be noted that the conflict has also disrupted air traffic in the Iranian peninsula and navigation in the
11:03Strait of Hormuz.
11:13In Israel, one month after the start of the attacks on Iran, a survey revealed a decline in public support
11:18for the continuation of the offensive against the Persian country.
11:21At the start of the U.S.-Israeli aggression against the Persian nation, 81% of Israelis clearly stayed their support
11:26for the continuation of the attacks.
11:28By the end of March, this figure had fallen to 68%.
11:31At the beginning of hostilities, 4% of Israeli Jews said they opposed the war to some extent or firmly.
11:38Now, 11.5% of those surveys say the same.
11:41Among the Arab population of Israel, opposition to the war has remained high and is increasing.
11:45At the beginning and middle of March, 60% and 65.5% respectively opposed the war, while in the
11:54survey from 22 to the 26th of March, their percentage escalated to 70%.
12:04And the military escalation in the Middle East initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran is having an
12:10impact on the global economy and especially on that of the United States.
12:13In this regard, the U.S. stock market index, which includes the 500 largest amongst representative companies, has fallen by
12:198.8%.
12:20And last Friday was its worst day on record.
12:24Treasury bonds are also being affected and are moving towards the worst month.
12:27Experts in the field warn that if the war prolongs, the price of a barrel of oil could reach $200,
12:34a historic record that would have devastating consequences.
12:44And China has officially confirmed the visit of Taiwan's top opposition leader in a move aimed at promoting dialogue and
12:51peaceful cooperation.
12:53A correspondent, Bruno Fossey, has the details.
12:57Greetings, comrades.
12:59From here, Beijing, I'm here to report that China has officially confirmed the visit of Cheng Li-Wun, the chairman
13:08of the Taiwan Kuomintang, scheduled for April 7 to 12, following an invitation extended directly by the President Xi Jinping
13:19and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
13:24Chang is the leader of the Taiwan Men's Opposition Party and intends to promote a dialogue and peaceful cooperation across
13:34the Taiwan Straits, including talks focused on the tangible benefits from the people and regional stability.
13:42In her pre-trip remarks, she emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication channels and strengthening the trust between Taipei
13:53and Beijing, also addressing economic, cultural and educational cooperation.
14:00The move comes amid a complex relation but reflects an attempt to foster the pragmatic and constructive dialogue with a
14:12view of peaceful development in the region.
14:15The Chinese authorities have historically reaffirmed the one China principle, this accord to the United Nations, which there is only
14:27one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of it, and they seek to move toward a peaceful reunification
14:36with that political framework.
14:38With this officially confirmed visit, Beijing and Kuomintang are showing interest in exploring practical solutions and strengthening ties in a
14:52geopolitical context of international conflicts.
14:57With this news from here, the capital of China, we return with you in the studios.
15:06We now have our second break coming up, we're going to be right back.
15:35Welcome back.
15:36In Belgium, a court has reopened a lawsuit filed by several organizations against the state for its inaction in the
15:42face of the genocide and war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.
15:45The ruling states that the International Court of Justice in The Hague demanded that Israel, in January 2004, ensures that
15:52its army did not violate the Genocide Convention.
15:55Belgium took more than a year to convene an initial meeting to discuss the export of arms to Israel, having
16:01not adopted any binding measures when the case was brought to court.
16:04These organizations had specifically demanded that Belgium close its airspace to the transport of arms to Israel, as well as
16:10other significant actions.
16:12The trial, which begins today in Brussels, is the first step in a process that could lead to the persecution
16:17of all governments that are complicit in the extermination war in Gaza.
16:31Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vetoed the Sunday of Fall Mass and the Patriarch of Jerusalem, which provoked a wave
16:39of reactions worldwide that forced the Premier to reconsider the decision.
16:45On Monday, it was announced that the Patriarch, Pierre Battista Pizzabella, would have immediate access to the Basilica, and it
16:52was also recognized that it was a mistake.
16:54Even one of his direct accomplices, the U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee admitted that the Israeli police had gone too
17:00far.
17:00Images of the violent repression against the religious, which took place for the first time in thousands of years, went
17:06around the world.
17:07Although the cleric continued with the ceremony from the outside with a resounding message to the genocide perpetrators.
17:14We continue with other topics relating to Earth Day in Palestine this Monday, March 30, March's Palestinian Land Day.
17:21In this context, pro-Palestinian rallies were held worldwide on Sunday ahead of the date.
17:26Several cities in the United States joined the protests against Israel's colonialist policies.
17:31Rallies and marches were organized by groups such as the Palestinian Youth Movement in major U.S. cities.
17:36A Land Day 2026 rally was scheduled at Ryan Park in New York City as well as in Pershing Square
17:43in Los Angeles.
17:44The Palestinian Land Day is commemorated every March 30.
17:48In that date of 1976, thousands of citizens gathered in protest against Israel's attempt of annexing Palestinian land,
17:54being the first time since 1948 that the people organized against Israel as a Palestinian national collective.
17:59The event is marked annually by protests, vigils and the planting of olive trees to reaffirm the Palestinian connection to
18:06the land.
18:07In other countries, like Spain and Brazil, citizens rallied in several cities to commemorate the struggle of the Palestinian people
18:12for their land and freedom
18:14and condemn Israel's genocide against the caste and population.
18:26A massive landslide in the town of Silvi, Italy, caused several buildings to collapse.
18:31Authorities managed to evacuate residents from the region.
18:35An arms sounded in the city of Silvi, where local authorities reported that the landslide remains active,
18:40threatening roads and other nearby infrastructure.
18:42Also, teams of geologists have been deployed to the area to analyze the subsoil and determine the extent of the
18:49risk.
18:50Meanwhile, preventive evacuations continue to guarantee the safety of the population.
18:59And the Mexican government maintains an emergency operation to rescue four workers trapped in the Santa Fe mine in Sinaloa,
19:05northwest of the country, following a collapse on March 25.
19:08More than 300 members of the National Guard, the Army and Protection are participating in the operation, working tirelessly at
19:19a depth of 300 meters.
19:21To advance safely, the specialists reinforce the structure with cement and resin,
19:26make sure that prevent further collapses.
19:29They have also installed an alarm system to evacuate the rescuers quickly while the work continues.
19:33The authorities provide psychological support and food for the families of minors.
19:45Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
