Sydney joins Boston and New York in the World Marathon Majors

Organisers of the annual Sydney marathon say having the event on the World Majors program will bring huge international exposure to running in Australia. The marathon’s operations director, Simon Bryan, says it will pave the way for more of the sport’s star athletes to travel down under.

00:11It's an elite race obviously but it also combines general participants from all walks of life.

00:20So it's not just about the elites but it's the pinnacle of marathon running.

00:24The likes of Kipchoge has won it many times and we hope to bring some of the elite athletes

00:29down to Sydney to race in this amazing race but also see some amazing runners from all

00:36different walks of life participate in a 42 kilometre journey.
