Your long-range November forecast across the US

From continuing drought on the East Coast to storms in the Plains and more, here's a rundown of what forecasters say November will bring around the country.

00:00The crystal ball Accuweather long range meteorologist Joe Lumber. Joe, let's get us ready for next week.

00:05All right. What are the three things we need to know about next week, Bernie? Well, here's the

00:08first one. It's going to be warm and dry for the most part across the east. Yet again, you need

00:14some rain. This front that's coming through the east today, bringing precious little rain with it.

00:18I think the front middle of next week, same story. A taste of winter in the Rockies. Not once,

00:22but maybe two opportunities. Unfortunately, we're still dealing with trouble in the tropics.

00:27Yeah, not only with our latest system, but we may have additional problems down the road.

00:34Yeah. All right. Here's the dip in the jet stream. Again, our upper low, which is now

00:39in the northwest, that's going to be coming eastward, but there's even another system that

00:44follows that. Yeah, there's a little piece of energy that just brought another 9.6 inches of

00:49snow to the Anchorage area. They've got 21 and a half inches of snow for the month. That little

00:53piece of energy drops into this trough and kind of reestablishes the trough in the west. So,

00:58one system will come out at the beginning of the week. That's the severe weather threat,

01:01the heavy rain threat, the flooding threat from parts of, say, the Red River Valley up into parts

01:07of Missouri, maybe Illinois and Iowa. So, that's early in the week. Then that moves out to the

01:12north and east. It stays warm and dry in the east with that front coming through bone dry.

01:17Second piece comes in, and I wouldn't be surprised if Wednesday night, Thursday,

01:20there's some snow opportunities in Denver yet again. Yeah, and Joe, when you take a look at the

01:24current drought monitor, this just dropped on Thursday. I mean, look at that area from Texas

01:32all the way toward the Dakotas and in the mid-Atlantic. Yeah, Bernie, if you contrasted

01:37this to what it looked like back at the beginning of June, basically from here east, there were

01:42hardly any areas of drought. Look at how that has changed in the last several months, particularly

01:47these areas in here. It has worsened rather dramatically in the past couple of months,

01:52as has been the case here in parts of the mid-Atlantic and the Ohio Valley. You've just

01:56missed out on all the rain, and that's a pattern that areas east of the Appalachians as we go

02:01forward in November probably isn't going to change all that much. All right, Joe, let's talk about

02:06November. You and the long-range team, meteorologist Paul Pasolak, came up with your November forecast.

02:12Let's first talk about temperatures. Yeah, the temperature pattern suggests that there's going

02:16to be some more of these dips in the jet stream coming into the north and west, bringing with it

02:20some chilly air. Good news if you like snow and if you like to ski. You'll probably get a good

02:25start in the ski season, and parts of those slopes in the northwest may be down into Salt Lake City

02:29in the Benches area. But to the south and east of that, the warmth is going to continue

02:33for the most part. You'll have a couple of fronts that will come through from time to time, but by

02:37and large, you're going to see above normal temperatures. So that suggests your mean jet

02:41stream pattern is going to be something like this. And if you look at that, what would it suggest

02:46about the precipitation potential? South and east of it, it stays dry once again, so that's okay for

02:51the, you know, cleanup operations and rebuilding efforts going on after Helene in the southeast, but

02:56boy, you need the rain in the mid-Atlantic and the northeast. Extended fire season, if you will, but

03:01opportunities for rain in the nation's midsection. All right, active weather long-range expert,
