Chainsaw carving with Ben Yeates

Derbyshire chainsaw sculptor Ben Yeates is seeking a fitting home for his Remembrance work.

00:00Yeah, well, my name is Ben Yeats. I've only been chainsaw carving a year

00:05And I'm just trying to build myself up. I'm running under a business called recarving nature at the moment and

00:11I decided I want to do something for Remembrance Sunday

00:15With the way the world is at minute. I think it it needs to be brought home from all them years ago about what they fought for

00:22So I started on this it took me seven weeks to get through it were eight foot log that were three three foot diameter

00:30And I'm just trying to sort of build me self up from a part-time

00:34hobbyist business

00:36into a maybe a full-time business and

00:39I think this marking a year of me carving is pretty iconic

00:44For what it is and I'd love to see it go to somewhere special

00:48to be

00:49To be cited for well for the rest of its life really

00:52Because if up keeps kept on this and it's coated once a year, it's going to last a century. It's

00:57It's not gonna decay or rot as long as it looked after it'd be nice to see in some sort of memorial garden somewhere

01:05but yeah, I'm keeping keeping doing bits of

01:09Commission work and your stuff that I fancy doing a long way and it just keeps my mind active and it keeps things going

01:18Trying to recreate different things and work in free and

01:22Something that I get in my head and just have a go and see what turns out

01:26You've got quite a bit of carving around here. What what kind of

01:30Carvings do you do? Well, what's the most popular? I tend to do a lot of owls

01:34I've just finished that one at the back of the soldier the barn owl

01:38That one's just that's in fact, it's still wet

01:42Finished that one this morning. That'll be going on me YouTube channel as a bit of a tutorial

01:47I do get quite a lot of people following on that. But as you can see behind you I've got

01:54Quite a rare animals really I do like doing me birds. I

01:59Think the features on them really really stand out this one I've done

02:06To give to somebody it's for a little boy's memory garden

02:11That one we're going to and that's stag. These are real lawns that I got off a friend

02:17Yeah, I just enjoy

02:19Trying to build it up great things. I mean that Harry Potter one took quite a while to do

02:25and it's just something that

02:27Look good, and I thought I'll have a go at something like that

02:31And it's all it's all in your mind and you work through it and keep stepping back and trying to carry on from it
