00:00Aubrey Plaza is the latest star to call out comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's controversial
00:04joke about Puerto Rico during a Trump rally over the weekend.
00:08Hinchcliffe made the remark during the Sunday night event in New York, saying,
00:12"'I don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating island of garbage
00:16in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico.'"
00:19He continued by making lewd and racist comments about Latinos, Jews, and black people.
00:25Speaking at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards on Tuesday night,
00:29the Agatha All Along actress, who has Puerto Rican heritage,
00:32said she wanted to, quote,
00:33"'very quickly respond to the racist joke that was made at that Trump rally about Puerto Rico,
00:38where most of my family is from.'"
00:40Thankfully, my abuelita wasn't here to hear that disgusting remark.
00:44But if she was alive today, I think she would say,
00:46"'Tony Hinchcliffe, go f**k yourself.'"
00:48And yes, the Wall Street Journal can quote me on that.
00:50Hinchcliffe's remark was immediately criticized by Kamala Harris' campaign,
00:55as well as Puerto Rican stars like Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Ricky Martin,
00:59who all posted clips from Harris' campaign addressing Puerto Rican voters
01:03and sharing her plans for helping the territory.
01:06Plaza previously spoke about infusing her heritage into her characters,
01:10telling Time for its 2024 Latino Leaders Package,
01:14"'I have a different kind of experience than a lot of other Latinx actors,
01:17because a lot of people don't even know that I'm half Puerto Rican.
01:20It's something that I always like to remind people of and bring to the table.'"
