20-year-old man killed in alleged fight in Geelong

Police in Victoria are investigating the death of a twenty-year-old man who was stabbed during an alleged fight in Geelong’s party precinct this morning. Two other men have been treated in hospital.

00:00Emergency services were only called here around 5.30 this morning to report of a man with

00:07a stab wound.

00:09Paramedics arrived and tried desperately to save the man's life, taking him to Geelong

00:13Hospital with critical injuries, but unfortunately he couldn't be saved.

00:18Two other men took themselves to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

00:23It's unclear exactly what their relationship is to the victim, who sadly has passed away.

00:29It sparked an extensive crime scene here in Geelong's city centre.

00:33It stretches for 500 metres from near where we understand the man stopped, all the way

00:39to the highway, and it's horrific.

00:42There is a trail of blood for hundreds of metres.

00:45The homicide squad and forensic officers arrived when the sun rose this morning, and they're

00:50trying to piece together exactly what happened here, but surrounding businesses say events

00:55like this are all too common, and that every week there is an assault or a glassing, and

01:01they say there needs to be more of a police presence here in the party area, especially

01:06on Friday and Saturday nights.

01:08So there have been no arrests or charges in this case so far, but it is still very early

01:14on and police are trying to figure out exactly what led up to this 20-year-old man's death

01:19as his family tragically wait to the news that he has died.
