00:00As households prepare for a significant rise in water bills, new figures show just how

00:05much each region will feel the impact. Here in the West Midlands, bills are projected

00:10to increase by 23%, with the average customer expected to pay £496 by 2030. This hike is

00:18part of a wider plan to improve water infrastructure, including upgrading pipes, sewers and treatment

00:23facilities. At the same time, water quality remains a

00:27growing concern. Despite efforts to address pollution, sewage spills continue to rise.

00:32In May 2023, the Environment Agency said that only 16% of assessed surface waters in England

00:39achieved good ecological status, raising serious concerns about the environment and health

00:44risks linked to contaminated waterways. Water companies are facing increasing scrutiny to

00:49resolve these problems, but the necessary upgrades may take time. As water companies

00:53tackle these dual challenges, families across the region will need to brace for higher bills
