As households prepare for a significant rise in water bills, new figures show just how
00:06
much each region will feel the impact. Here in Wales, bills are projected to increase
00:10
by 29%, with the average customer expected to pay Β£603 by 2030. This hike is part of
00:18
a wider plan to improve water infrastructure, including upgrading pipes, sewers and treatment
00:23
facilities. At the same time, water quality remains a
00:26
growing concern. Despite efforts to address pollution, sewage spills continue to rise.
00:31
In May 2023, the Environment Agency said that around 40% of assessed surface waters in Wales
00:38
achieved good ecological status, raising concerns about the environmental and health risks linked
00:43
to contaminated waterways. Water companies are facing increasing scrutiny to resolve
00:48
these problems, but the necessary upgrades may take time.
00:52
As water companies tackle these dual challenges, families across the region will need to brace
00:56
for higher bills in the years to come.
