00:00As households prepare for a significant rise in water bills, new figures show just how

00:06much each region will feel the impact. Here in Wales, bills are projected to increase

00:10by 29%, with the average customer expected to pay £603 by 2030. This hike is part of

00:18a wider plan to improve water infrastructure, including upgrading pipes, sewers and treatment

00:23facilities. At the same time, water quality remains a

00:26growing concern. Despite efforts to address pollution, sewage spills continue to rise.

00:31In May 2023, the Environment Agency said that around 40% of assessed surface waters in Wales

00:38achieved good ecological status, raising concerns about the environmental and health risks linked

00:43to contaminated waterways. Water companies are facing increasing scrutiny to resolve

00:48these problems, but the necessary upgrades may take time.
