00:00So, Nick, could you tell me a little bit more about why some UK cities are so loved by the
00:07people who live there?
00:08Well, Iona, according to a report by Residence Consultancy, which was published back in March
00:14of Europe's Best Cities, it also included UK ones.
00:18Of the study of Europe's Best 100 Cities, London came out top for the second year in
00:24a row.
00:25The capital was named as Europe's Best City for reasons including the quality of its educational
00:29institutions and its culture.
00:33Also placing in the top 30 came Oxford, Manchester, Edinburgh and also Birmingham and Glasgow,
00:40featured in the top 50 amongst other UK cities.
00:44But when it comes to the Telegraph's research into the best UK cities to live and work in,
00:49the results differ slightly, don't they?
00:52They do indeed.
00:53So, according to research by the Telegraph, London, Manchester and Birmingham were named
00:57as some of the worst cities to work and live in, with Plymouth topping the list as being
01:02the best.
01:03Rachel Taylor of PwC said, raising prosperity across the UK is needed more than ever as
01:09we continue to see growing inequality in housing, jobs and education.
01:14She also went on to say that there is an increasing imbalance within and between neighbourhoods,
01:19which has been driven by disparities in access to quality education, jobs and housing.
01:25This is felt not only across different regions but also between people living within the
01:29same postcodes in cities.
01:31London, Birmingham and Manchester were found to have large waiting lists for social housing,
01:36which is a factor blamed for making them the lowest performed cities assessed by the PwC.
01:43London had the longest waiting lists for council houses of any city in the country, with more
01:48than 300,000 people awaiting accommodation, followed by Manchester at 100,000.
