00:00So the Senator Wade Mark and he's absent at this time but he spoke about some
00:08article about Bacchanal in the PNM and I want to give the population the
00:12assurance there is no Bacchanal in the PNM.
00:20There is no Bacchanal in the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:26Newly appointed government senator Ansel Dennis a former chief secretary of the
00:31Tobago House of Assembly as he delivered his first contribution to a debate in
00:35the Senate on Tuesday just one day after he took his oath of office at the Red
00:40House in Port of Spain. Senator Dennis was responding to a statement made by
00:45leader of opposition business Wade Mark in the Senate on Monday as the upper
00:49house began its debate of the 2025 budget.
01:20Works and Transport Minister Rohan Selanand did respond to Senator Mark in the
01:25Senate on Monday evening and before Senator Dennis's response there was one
01:30from tourism minister Randall Mitchell on Tuesday. The most incredible thing
01:34about that statement is that Senator Mark said it with a straight face you know.
01:41Meanwhile in the other house you have one section telling the five down on
01:50the other section the B team that always a set of B team always degenerates and
01:57then you have the B team telling the other team telling the other team that
02:05y'all are a set of bullies. An apparent reference to the slate led by the MP
02:10Femi Aru which unsuccessfully contested positions on the national executive of
02:15the UNC in the party's internal elections earlier this year against the
02:20slate endorsed by the UNC's political leader. I want to say to them that our
02:26leader is a man of integrity, a man of character, a man with an impeccable track
02:36recording the politics of Trinidad and Tobago from 1986 I believe it was
02:42before I was born to now. A man who has demonstrated courage in his leadership
02:48of this country and of course a man who has been sober at all times. Senator Mark
02:59referred to statements made by opposition leader Kamala Prasad-Bissessa
03:02during her response to the government's budget in the House of
03:06Representatives after the PNM cancelled their convention and internal elections.
03:12Opposition Senator Jayanti Lachmedia later responded to Senator Dennis in the
03:16Senate on Tuesday by defending the leadership of the UNC under opposition
03:21leader Prasad-Bissessa.
03:24And then they talk about we have Bacchanal and don't talk about them, Bacchanal and all that kind of thing.
03:27All of them were mine and obsessed with my Aru for the last six months but now they're coming to tell us don't get in our Bacchanal.
03:34At least we have a democratic party that will hold elections and give people the ability to sit down where they want, stand up where they want, say what they want.
03:44They don't have to go, as Senator Johnson said, they don't have to go pursuer, pursuer by the express and ask for anonymity like giving witness protection to talk about what's going on inside the party. We don't have that.
03:55On Sunday following the PNM's general council meeting at Balize House, the party's chairman, acting Prime Minister Stuart Young, told the media
04:04that the posts of political leader, chairman and the general secretary are not due for re-election in the PNM until 2026.
04:12The upcoming general election is due next year, 2025.
