In 1956, Hori demonstrates the antiprotozoal properties of nitroimidazole.
In 1957, 5-NIMZ, metronidazole, was synthesized.
In 1960 it was used for the first time for the treatment of trichomonas infection.
In 1961, the effectiveness of the drug for the treatment of giardiasis was studied.
In 1969 - the first evidence of the effectiveness of metronidazole in the treatment of balantidiasis.
