Should Rangers adopt a 6-man rotation in 2025?

If the Rangers can get Roki Sasaki from Japan, and even if they don't, Mike Bacsik thinks Texas should go to a 6-man rotation to protect both Jacob deGrom and the young arms.

00:48It's the first time he's ever done it in his life.

00:50They're not training and not just the Rangers.

00:52Most teams are not training their minor league pitchers to ever throw any fifth day until

00:57they get to the major leagues, which is if you're not training them in the minor leagues,

01:00they're not training them in college to do it.

01:01Why in the world would you do it in your mid 20s to say, hey, I know you never done this

01:05in your life and you'll probably destroy your arm for a year or two years.

01:09Let's throw you every fifth day.

01:11So I think in a way, getting a pitcher from Japan where they do acquiesced, is that the

01:18Oh, look at you.

01:19Two Japanese pitchers are like, well, gosh, the guy's only pitched every Friday night

01:23for, you know, till he's 23 years old.

01:25Why would we ever throw him a fifth day?

01:27Well, I think with, if you get Nathan Evaldi back, which the Rangers really want Nathan

01:30Evaldi and he had a great year last year and stayed healthy most of the year.

01:34But if you get Nathan Evaldi back and you have Jacob deGrom in your rotation, Tyler

01:37Malley has dealt with injuries.

01:39He couldn't really even come back.

01:40He came back, but then didn't come back.

01:43I just look at it and go, a six man rotation makes so much sense for me next year that

01:47guys are just throwing once a week.

01:49If I want to keep Jacob deGrom healthy, if I want to keep, let's just throw Sazaki on

01:53the team, which would be awesome.

01:54If I want to try to keep him healthy, Yamamoto couldn't stay healthy for the Dodgers.

01:57Luckily, he's healthy for the playoffs.

01:58But if I want to keep my guys healthy, if I want to keep Kamar Rocker healthy and limit

02:02his innings, I need a six man rotation.
