00:00Hello, welcome to your weekend forecast from the Met Office.
00:03A weekend that's going to be stormy.
00:05Storm Kira is arriving through Saturday and Sunday,
00:09bringing some very strong winds.
00:11Gusts of 60, 70, possibly even 80 miles an hour
00:15across some places.
00:16And there's still a bit of uncertainty
00:18about the exact track and the exact path of Kira
00:21because that storm system is way out across the Atlantic,
00:24and in fact, across the eastern seaboard of the United States.
00:27It's a set of weather fronts in this low pressure system.
00:30Storm Kira developing through Friday and Saturday,
00:33picked up by a strong jet stream barreling across the country.
00:37The ice bars really pinching together
00:38there across northern Britain on Saturday,
00:40and then right across the country on Sunday.
00:44So there are a couple of weather warnings in force.
00:46Sunday's weather warning covering most of the UK
00:49with gusts of wind likely inland 50, maybe 60 miles an hour
00:53around coast 70, and possibly 80 miles an hour.
00:56But there's still some uncertainty
00:58about the exact track and the exact intensity
01:00because that storm still has to travel right
01:03the way across the Atlantic.
01:05We're also concerned about the winds picking up on Saturday
01:07across parts of northern Britain.
01:09So there is a warning in force for Scotland, Northern Ireland,
01:11parts of northwest England.
01:13Gusts of wind, again, likely 50, 60, maybe 70 miles an hour.
01:17Those kind of gusts of wind are likely to cause travel
01:19disruption, maybe flying debris, interruptions
01:22to ferry services, rail services.
01:25Not going to be great on the roads with some heavy rain
01:27around as well.
01:28And as well as all that, there'll
01:29be some very large waves.
01:32Weather-wise, well, actually, Saturday,
01:34looking dry, bright, and blustery for many.
01:36There'll be some overnight rain clearing away.
01:38We will see more wet weather coming into Northern Ireland
01:40and Scotland later in the day.
01:43A few showers across England and Wales.
01:44But a good part of England and Wales will be dry,
01:47but it will be windy, particularly
01:49windy on Saturday across northern Britain.
01:51As I said, we do have a warning in force for Saturday
01:54through the afternoon and overnight.
01:55Temperature-wise, well, on the mild side,
01:57because the winds are coming up from the southwest,
01:59but of course, feel all that mild because
02:02of the strength of the wind.
02:03And then the winds strengthen right
02:05across the country on Saturday night and Sunday.
02:08This is the area of low pressure.
02:10Storm Kira really moving in.
02:12Looks like heading to the northwest of the UK,
02:14but look at the number of isobars
02:15right across the country.
02:17As I said, still some uncertainty
02:18about the exact position and therefore
02:20the exact intensity of those winds.
02:23But disruption is likely on Sunday.
02:25Certainly, again, we'll see disruption
02:28to public transport, the potential for power cuts.
02:31And as well as all that, a lot of wet weather around as well.
02:34So there are also rain warnings in force
02:37as that heavy rain sweeps through.
02:38Very blustery conditions.
02:40Again, it'll be quite mild, especially
02:43across the south with temperatures potentially
02:45into the teens in some spots.
02:47But it's mostly about those winds,
02:50say potentially damaging gusts of wind
02:52over the course of this weekend.
