00:00Welcome to Minutes Mastery by 3T.
00:11Today we shall discuss the concept of grey rhino, which represent high probable obvious
00:17threats that we tend to overlook until it's too late.
00:21The term was coined by Michelle Vooker in her 2016 book, The Grey Rhino, how to recognize
00:29and act on obvious dangers we ignore.
00:33But why a rhino?
00:34Because it's a massive creature you can't miss.
00:38It's right there in front of you, charging slowly, giving plenty of warning, yet we often
00:44fail to act.
00:46Take health for instance.
00:47We are constantly warned about dangers of unhealthy lifestyles, poor diet, lack of exercise
00:54and smoking.
00:56We know the risks, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, yet many of us wait until we
01:03face a major health crisis to make changes in the lifestyle.
01:07According to WHO, an estimated 17.9 million people die each year from cardiovascular diseases,
01:16many of which are preventable through lifestyle changes.
01:19The signs are there, but we keep delaying the action.
01:24These health risks are classic grey rhinos.
01:28In the corporate world, ignoring grey rhinos can lead to business failures.
01:33Remember Nokia?
01:35Once a leader in mobile phones, they underestimated rise of smartphones.
01:41Despite early signs of market shifting, they didn't act fast enough and by the time they
01:46did, it was too late.
01:50Whether it's a warning from your doctor or from the industry, you are operating in, don't
01:55wait for the grey rhino to charge.
01:59By the time it does, it might be too late to reverse the damage.
02:04As Michelle Wooker puts it, not all crises come out of nowhere.
02:09The biggest crises are often the ones we see coming but fail to address.
02:14So ask yourself, what obvious warnings are you ignoring today?
02:19Take action before the grey rhino charges in full force.
02:22We've all been there, ignoring those obvious health warnings, convincing ourselves we'll
02:29address them tomorrow, right?
02:33Learn of the grey rhino then.
02:34Join us again tomorrow to know and grow more.
