The Tabaquite MP says it makes no sense being a young politician or a new politician and trying to practice in the old political landscape.
The Opposition MP also says that if politicians' loyalty to their party supersedes loyalty to the country, then they are not making the difference they think they are making .
It was all part of her Budget contribution in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
00:00And I'd like to say to the members of the public who are paying attention, who have sent their well-wishes,
00:05that no, I do not believe this would be my last budget contribution.
00:19And so as I sat in this debate, you know, this has been a very, very unique debate for me,
00:26because, you know, outside of the regular pick-on, we have also faced some pick-on from our own side.
00:35And that has been very unique.
00:56Because I sat down here and I listened as a colleague started a contribution talking about A-teams and B-teams
01:17and ended a contribution talking about a very serious, very important national issue on bullying.
01:27That same colleague spent a lot of time this year talking about who was nobody, nimakaram, etc.
01:40After Deputy Speaker Esmond Ford's intervention, the Tabakit MP continued.
01:45That is not giving A-team behavior.
01:48To contradict yourself in 55 minutes is not A-team behavior.
01:52And take that from me, who have been an A-student my entire life.
01:56Take that from me, Mr. Deputy Speaker.
02:00The Tabakit MP said that she has a lot of ideas for her constituency, but she is stuck in what she called an antiquated system.
02:08Because it makes no sense, Mr. Deputy Speaker, being a young politician or a new politician and trying to practice in the old political landscape.
02:21Once you do that, once you do that, Mr. Deputy Speaker, you are setting up yourself for failure.
02:33MP Haynes-Alain said change agents are needed in local politics.
02:37If it is that your loyalty to your party supersedes your loyalty to the country that has given us everything that we have,
02:48you are not making the difference you think you make yet.
02:51The opposition MP also seemed to have a message for the government MPs.
02:56We've had in this past year, and in this very debate here, I have looked at and listened to several members applauding a decision taken by my colleagues.
03:09Applauding the decision and myself to stand collectively for something that we truly believe in.
03:18But it is our civic duty, no matter where you are, for you to equally stand for the right thing.
03:28MP Haynes-Alain defined a political party as being a vehicle for national development.
