Sonam Wangchuk Detained, Outlook Speaks to Protestors

Delhi’s #Bawana police station has turned into a fortress after political activist #SonamWangchuk was detained along with 150 others before they could enter the national capital as part of their march demanding the inclusion of #Ladakh in the #SixthSchedule, which would grant law-making powers to the local population to protect their land and cultural identity. Another is separate #LokSabha seats for #Leh and #Kargil districts.  Wangchuk and others began a foot march from Leh to Delhi on September 1 to urge the Centre to resume dialogue with Ladakh's leadership regarding their demands. Initially, they were asked to turn back due to prohibitory orders imposed in Delhi until October 5. However, they were detained when they refused to stop.  #Wangchuk expressed disappointment at the situation, sharing that the protesters initially believed they were being escorted for safety but soon realized they were being detained. This moment reflects a broader struggle for recognition and rights in #Ladakh, where locals are fighting for their future.  Outlook speaks to protestors. 00:04I'm active from the point of view of safeguarding the sensitive high Himalayas.

00:12And I see SIKS schedule, if you ask me, my personal thing, it's just a good tool, good provision.

00:22I want to use all provisions and want new provisions to be introduced.

00:27But meanwhile, I'm saying it is there already, why don't you give this?

00:32I mean, new will take time.

00:34But for Ladakh region, I mean, Himachal, Uttaranchal may need other provisions to safeguard their part of the mountains.

00:42But Ladakh already has one.

00:44And you don't even need to invent.

00:48So why wait?

00:50So therefore, I saw that SIKS schedule is a very good option.

00:56And it is something that has not been opposed by anybody till now.

01:04So all parties have vouched for it.

01:09BJP has promised and therefore should not be a problem.

01:13And if they backtrack, then that's their problem.

01:16They're backtracking on promises already made.

01:19So therefore, SIKS schedule is the clearest way to safeguard this region of Ladakh.
