00:00A Bersatu leader has questioned Garakkan's credibility in calling for an in-depth study
00:06on the loss of Malay votes to UMNO in recent by-elections.
00:11Mahathir Rai said Garakkan was in no position to make such a call as the party had failed
00:16to secure a voter base, particularly among the Chinese community, and did almost nothing
00:21to rebuild itself.
00:23In a statement, Mahathir also said that Garakkan had been in decline for over a decade and
00:28therefore lacked any credibility to critique its coalition partners or comment on Malay
00:33voting trends.
00:34The Bersatu Federal Territory Secretary was responding to Garakkan President Dominic Lau's
00:39suggestion that a study would help Perikatan Nasional prepare for the next general election.
00:44Mahathir said Garakkan has not made significant electoral breakthroughs, lacks grassroots
00:48support, and is outpaced by Bersatu and PAS.
00:53He accused Lau of oversimplifying the complexity of Malay voting patterns, which are influenced
00:58by regional issues and divided by constituencies.
01:02He added that Garakkan's narrow focus on recent losses overlooks the fact that the
01:06Malay electorate has always been divided.
