00:00Finance Minister Colman Byrd says the government remains committed to the modernization of infrastructure in the country.
00:07In delivering the 2024-2025 budget in the House of Representatives,
00:11Byrd cited several multi-million dollar projects that are underway to upgrade primary roads and address drainage issues.
00:19He says the Camuto to Sangre Grandi highway project is set to be completed by April 2025 and will impact around 100,000 people positively.
00:29Omero Road is undergoing transformation to be completed in December 2024 at a cost of $57.5 million
00:38and the Manzanilla Road, which collapsed due to flooding, is at an advanced stage of rehabilitation.
00:44When completed by January 2025, it will cost taxpayers a total of $177 million.
00:52In addressing the deterioration of secondary roads, the minister highlights the plan for the year ahead.
00:58The ministry has engaged 25 small contractors to supplement and enhance its in-house patching and road rehabilitation program in all areas of Trinidad.
01:10It is intended in fiscal 2025 to increase this number to 50 contractors to allow for increased coverage around the island.
01:19To alleviate delays caused by procurement laws, Byrd says the Works Ministry will also develop a list of bonded contractors.
01:27As for the peer program, the minister states that 150 projects were initiated this year at a cost of approximately $233 million,
01:3785 are completed, 30 are scheduled for 2025 and 35 are under the tendering process.
01:45The Ministry of Works and Transport will initiate in 2025 100 new road paving projects on local roads at an estimated cost of $210 million.
01:59Inbyrd says over 600 desilting and river cleaning projects have also been done under the Works Ministry for this year so far.
