00:00Three days before the national budget is read, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is warning
00:06of difficult times ahead as a result of this nation's declining natural gas reserves.
00:12The period between now and 2027, second quarter, would be one of difficulty for the people
00:18of Trinidad and Tobago because the current levels at which we are producing and the market
00:25situation would cause us, or should cause us, to be responsible and hold the fort with
00:36a very good view and good confidence that come 2027 we will be in a better position
00:46with this industry.
00:48Speaking at the 25th anniversary function for Atlantic LNG at the company's Point 14
00:53administration office on Friday, Dr. Rowley said, however, Atlantic's restructuring, together
01:00with work on two gas fields moving apace, TNT's outlook is positive.
01:05If we don't add new gas to the mix coming in, we're not only talking about decline but
01:15even holding our production where we are now, we need a strong stream of gas coming in to
01:22maintain the levels at which we are now.
01:24Manatee does that for us.
01:25The case of the Dragon field, which is a field in Venezuela, very close to our Hibiscus platform
01:32which BP and Shell operate at the time, the work, the seismic work, is either very close
01:40or is progressing, but the bottom line is it's in view, work to go on, and interestingly
01:46enough, it's work on a proven field.
01:50We know exactly what we're going after.
01:52Dr. Rowley says despite what has been or is being said about some of these arrangements,
01:58key players all want the same thing.
02:01Let us not be distracted too much by the geopolitical.
02:05Both Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela and the United States, we all have an interest
02:12in success, in peace and security, and good commercial arrangements between the neighboring
02:19countries of Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.
