00:00A final farewell for a man credited with laying the foundations of the Northern Territory's
00:08cattle industry.
00:09He was, and will forever remain, a hero of our cattle community, the NT and beyond.
00:17He truly deserves his exalted status amongst the legends and leaders of the North.
00:23Hundreds gathering at the Darwin Convention Centre to pay their respects.
00:27We have read and heard and seen many tributes to Luke, recalling his qualities of courage,
00:31determination and humour and his ability to relate to people and provide leadership when
00:36it was needed.
00:39That is how our family remembers him as an infant, a small boy, a teenager and as he
00:44grew to a young man.
00:46His son describing a loving father who showed respect for people from all walks of life.
00:51There is so much I wish I could tell him.
00:53I love you, thank you and I am proud of you, a man of integrity, a man I revered.
01:00Following the 2011 live cattle export ban, Mr Bowen was the public face of the Northern
01:05Australian cattle industry, tasked with rallying producers left without a livelihood and rebuilding
01:11public trust in the sector, winning hearts and minds across the country.
01:16Not only did he leap onto the saddle of the night horse to get back in the lead and get
01:21around that madly rushing mob of the press and the public of Australia, get them back
01:28into a tractable mob that they were listening and thinking straight.
01:31With the last words from the man himself.
01:33Look forward to catching up with everybody when you get home, we've got plenty of work
01:36to do in 2022, so for now anyway, over and out.
01:41Remembering a true gentleman of Australian agriculture.
