Staff and residents at an Oswestry residential home have been making goods to raise money for charity Sands.

Staff and residents have been knitting poppies, blankets and making all kinds of stuff to raise money for a worthy cause, the charity Sands.

00:26which charities have you been raising money for Beverly? We've been raising money for SANS,

00:31Sudden, sorry the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death UK charity. How did you get into raising money

00:38for that charity then? We were having a little chat off camera earlier, how did you get into

00:43raising money? Well I've got a bad back and I needed to do some exercise and I took up swimming

00:5112 months ago and to keep me motivated I decided to do a sponsored swim

01:00and so that's how I ended up at Lake Coniston. So you were saying in your former life you used

01:05to work for the police force and you came across first hand a lot of quite sad tales didn't you?

01:11Yes I did. Baby deaths and stuff. Yes and I attended a lot of cock deaths. Yeah. Also I've got three

01:19very good friends whose babies were born asleep. Yeah. And that was, that touched me as well.

01:27So the swimming, it's just gone from strength to strength, that's what the medals are isn't it?

01:32Round your neck there. So what are some of the swims you've done? Well this is the chill swim

01:37at Lake Coniston. Yeah. That's five and a quarter miles. Yeah. Coniston end to end. Wow. This one's

01:44Rutland Water in Leicestershire. Yeah. This was two kilometers and it was the width of it

01:51here. Fantastic. And this is a five kilometer swimming medal from Sands. Great stuff. And you've

01:58been, the girls have been helping you. What have you been doing here with the girls then at the

02:01home to try and raise money? Right let me introduce you to Mandy the Mannequin. Mandy the

02:07Mannequin. She's just here. We've been making these lovely brooches. Let's have a look.

02:14Fantastic. Wow okay. Blankets. Yeah. And we decided as a collective that we're going to

02:26make poppies. Yeah. In aid of the Royal British Legion. Okay what and then just sell them via

02:32like your links that you've got. We're going to sell them through the links that we've already

02:37made. Yeah. And through staff will buy and hopefully visitors will buy and it's a minimum

02:46donation of two pounds fifty. So Joyce you were knitting poppies when I came in just weren't you?

02:52Yeah I've got one there. And you were saying you can get two a day you can get through can't you?

02:57Yeah yeah. And knitting is that your game as well then? Yes. Yeah yeah. I enjoy knitting yes.

03:05It's meant to be a very relaxing thing to do isn't it knitting?

03:08Yes it is quite relaxing. I wouldn't say I could do two a day. Yeah.

03:17Yeah Joyce gets her picture early and that's how she gets to do her day.

03:22So has it been fun being involved in the activity and helping a charity at the same time?

03:29Have you enjoyed doing the work like and helping the charity yeah? Yes that's right yeah. Yeah

03:34definitely good job. What do you think of the girls then Beverly? I think they're absolutely

03:39amazing. Yeah. And I do hope if I reach their age I'm as full of them and vigour as they are.

03:48Well I hope Joyce doesn't mind me saying she's 99 in a couple of months isn't she?

03:53I hope you don't mind me saying that Joyce. Not yet. Not yet but in a couple of months

03:58and still doing charity work at 99. I mean that's that's a fantastic isn't it you know?

04:03I love I love these two ladies. Yeah. They're absolutely brilliant. Yeah have you heard that

04:09you're getting the thumbs up from Beverly she said she loves you. Good work. Well thank you
