00:00For our countrymen in Cebu, in addition to the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government or DILG,

00:07Philippine National Police, and officials of the Local Government Unit,

00:11Revitalize Police in Lapu-Lapu City launched the Drug Abuse or B.D.A. Program.

00:19Jesse Atienza is in the report.

00:21Who would have thought that Roberto Plando Jr., a former drug trafficker and drug addict,

00:30is now able to stand tall in front of thousands of people

00:36to share his experiences and experiences in order to overcome the harsh trials in life.

00:43Roberto is known as Berta in Palayaw.

00:46He has been using illegal drugs for four years and he is now happy with his life.

00:53I am in a good condition now and I am happy to be able to speak about my work in taking drugs.

01:06So I'm happy.

01:09Berta is one of 8,000 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel,

01:14along with barangay and LGU officials,

01:17who participated in the launch of the Revitalize Police in Barangay,

01:21Drug Abuse or B.D.A. Program,

01:24led by DILG and PNP,

01:27which was led by PNP Chief Police General Romel Francisco Marbil.

01:32The program aims to strengthen the partnership between the agencies of the government and the LGU,

01:38especially at the barangay level, for the campaign against illegal drugs.

01:43This is an advocacy campaign on drug abuse or B.D.A.

01:48with Revitalize Police emphasizing the role of the PNP and the law enforcement

01:53in the campaign against illegal drugs.

01:55Although, the whole nation's approach is still the same.

02:00This was originally for insurgency.

02:03We saw the efficiency in fighting the insurgents.

02:07That's what's in this anti-illegal drug program,

02:11wherein the police in the barangay play a bigger role in analyzing and responding

02:19to the root causes of the problems in the barangay in terms of illegal drugs.

02:24Mayor Jonard Ahong Chan was happy because the barangay was chosen as the venue for the program.

02:32He also promised that the cooperation of the LGU with the police will continue,

02:37especially since they have a new chief in the barangay

02:40to continue the fight against crime and illegal activities in the barangay.

02:46We will maintain the peace and order in our city.

02:52We all know that we are a tourism city.

02:55There are a lot of tourists.

02:56They would prefer to stay here if the place is peaceful.

03:01Our directive to the police is to maintain order and orderliness in the city.

03:08This is why it is illegal here.

03:14As long as it is illegal, it is not welcome in Lapu-Lapu.

03:22Some of the congressmen also joined the activity as supporters of the PNP and DILG program.
