00:00:00So, pretty much 16 years, the theme is friendship, chosen by the RHS.
00:00:15Well, friendship, I think, we are talking about in Wales, we certainly are.
00:00:22And we are so very proud to wish you the very best of luck to Rexham, to Colwyn Bay and to Salisbury,
00:00:31who this year have signed a plan for the municipality of Wales.
00:00:35So good luck to that, and we look forward to seeing you in Oxogo.
00:00:40And finally, my thanks go to you.
00:00:49This is the reason we are where we are today.
00:00:52It's because of you.
00:00:54You truly are an inspiration to people who are working so hard to develop.
00:01:00I can't follow that, but I'd like to write down some of your words.
00:01:05Community engagement is important.
00:01:07There is so much more than just finance, health and wellbeing, social and economic development,
00:01:18education for young people.
00:01:23It's simply in your hands, and you can do so much.
00:01:27So good luck.
00:01:29This afternoon is a celebration, so move the chairs absolutely crazy.
00:01:36I like the fact that some of you have actually turned the chairs up, so we're interested.
00:01:42But it is also a celebration. Enjoy it. You've earned it. You've worked so hard.
00:01:48So, thank you so much.
00:01:50So, we're going to start this afternoon now by presenting the itching names of the kids.
00:02:04So, can I ask, please, there's obviously a lot today, as Peter has just said a number.
00:02:10If there are one or two that are in your area, and you're able to collect them on behalf of others,
00:02:17if you are able to do that for us, that would be a great help.

00:34:25for the best front garden in Wales,
00:34:27as seen by the judges' team this summer.
00:34:31Perhaps as an introduction,
00:34:34some of you may not be familiar with
00:34:37the sort of fabric of the competition and how we run it,
00:34:40but each of the main entries in the main categories
00:34:44are allowed to nominate a front garden
00:34:47when we visit them on a judging visit.
00:34:50And those entries, then, are photographed
00:34:53and put here on a PowerPoint,
00:34:56and in late July and early August,
00:34:59when the judges meet,
00:35:02somewhere in deep, distant Wales, in secret,
00:35:05that PowerPoint is put on the screen,
00:35:08and 1.1, they're eliminated
00:35:11until we come to a final decision, all of us,
00:35:14that which one is going to be the winner for that particular year.
00:35:18Well, this year's winner,
00:35:21slightly different,
00:35:24but having said that, the competition was very tough
00:35:27this year as well.
00:35:30We looked at this garden,
00:35:33and this one stood out, maybe, in terms of the design of it,
00:35:36the plant choices, and the way that
00:35:39plant choices have been made in order to reflect
00:35:42the interests of the earth,
00:35:45and in some way, the gardening and cultivating the skills
00:35:48that would be learned by the old man.
00:35:51Therefore, it gives me great pleasure
00:35:54to say the winner this year is
00:35:57Sunrise and Solacewell.
00:36:45So, we now move on, then, to the
00:36:48Wales in Bloom charity certificates
00:36:51for this year.
00:36:54These are the individuals that we believe,
00:36:57as a community, as a team at Wales in Bloom,
00:37:00the people who have made a real, real contribution
00:37:03to Wales in Bloom,
00:37:06and the people who have made a real, real contribution
00:37:09to Wales in Bloom,
00:37:12the people who have made a real, real contribution
00:37:15in terms of bringing their team together
00:37:18and producing something really, really good
00:37:21in their own communities.
00:37:24Obviously, there's only a limited number each year,
00:37:27and this year, once again,
00:37:30there were some really, really good nominations
00:37:33when we met as a team of judges.
00:37:36So, Peter's going to present these.
00:37:39And the first one, perhaps not a surprise,
00:37:42the famous and famous Howard Cavallarelli.
00:38:02I've been invited, of course, as everybody.
00:38:35Excellent.
00:38:38The person who really impressed me
00:38:41in terms of design flair,
00:38:44the choice of props,
00:38:47and the sort of enthusiasm and skills
00:38:50that we impressed with this,
00:38:53T. Harvey Chepsominka.
00:39:31The third one,
00:39:34again somebody who's really led the team,
00:39:37there were some elements in the entry here
00:39:40that were very, very impressive indeed
00:39:43in terms of litter,
00:39:46and not just litter on land,
00:39:49but litter in our seas as well.
00:39:52And also, the public airs.
00:39:55This was really quite impressive,
00:39:58the way that the team had done a lot of work
00:40:01that would have normally been done
00:40:04by the public.
00:40:16If I can ask Lily to accept the next one as well,
00:40:19because her colleague there
00:40:22has come here on holiday,
00:40:25but we also would like to give the same awards
00:40:28to Matthew Williams as well.
00:40:55Stanley Rexham,
00:40:58just like Saul's,
00:41:01Alex Magog,
00:41:04Rexham.
00:41:15This is an entry that I've not personally visited,
00:41:18but I've heard a lot about it from the other judges
00:41:21and naval assessors,
00:41:24and from what I've heard,
00:41:28it's really deserved as well.
00:41:31Anita Fabian,
00:41:42Well done, Anita.
00:41:58And another entry
00:42:01that I know impressed one of my fellow judges
00:42:04a great deal,
00:42:07and he's talked about this in the judges' meeting.
00:42:10Janet Morgan,
00:42:13a good friendship group,
00:42:16at the tip up.
00:42:28Right,
00:42:31so that concludes the awarding
00:42:34of the Naval Certificate
00:42:37and the Welsingham Championship Certificate.
00:42:40So if I can ask my President now,
00:42:43please, Jim Goodwin, to join me,
00:42:46and Jim will read his citation
00:42:49and then present it to Jim Goodwin,
00:42:52the young person on the board.
00:42:55Thank you very much, Jonathan.
00:42:58Jim Goodwin, the board.
00:43:01I'm very pleased to make this presentation today.
00:43:04Myself and the members of the committee
00:43:07take great pride in
00:43:10presenting this award.
00:43:13The chairman judged this entry this year
00:43:16and came away impressed by the works undertaken
00:43:19and the differences made to the uses
00:43:22of this establishment.
00:43:25The group of young people being awarded this award
00:43:28have often taken many negatives
00:43:31and turned them into positives.
00:43:34On one occasion creating habitat opportunities
00:43:37for wildlife materials that have been left outside.
00:43:40Through horticulture they are committed
00:43:43to celebrating people who have influenced their lives.
00:43:46They have created a memorial garden,
00:43:49a quiet garden for reflection,
00:43:52an orchard and have reused non-bicycle mountains
00:43:55throughout their projects.
00:43:58They have a clear understanding of both their local environment
00:44:01and the need for change in the global environment,
00:44:04representing their location and supporting
00:44:07in their own way their local community.
00:44:10Food production on this site is often distributed
00:44:13to local residents and yes,
00:44:16I actually spoke to the judge about food poverty
00:44:19during his visit.
00:44:22This is such a well run eco club.
00:44:25It has its own chair, secretary, treasurer
00:44:28along with a membership that will leave a real legacy
00:44:31for future generations.
00:44:34When these young people move to the next school
00:44:37I'm sure this will influence many others throughout their academic years.
00:44:40You will now guess that this award
00:44:43this year is going to a school group of young people
00:44:46not just an individual young person.
00:44:49I am therefore delighted to announce
00:44:52that this year's winner of the Jim Goodwin Young Persons Award
00:44:55is the eco club of
00:44:58St Winifred's Catholic Primary School
00:45:01Hollywell.
00:45:43Ok, thank you Jim.
00:45:46The next award is presented in my name
00:45:49the John Woods Environmental Award
00:45:52and having looked at all the nominations this year
00:45:55this was the winner
00:45:58and I've asked somebody who knew the site better than me
00:46:01to write a short citation
00:46:04so there's a little test here for you
00:46:07perhaps somebody who might be able to recognise
00:46:10the winner before I get to the end of the citation
00:46:13so good luck.
00:46:16The site has many environmental attributes
00:46:19it has been transformed into an ideal location
00:46:22for wildlife to thrive
00:46:25and a recreational area for local people and visitors.
00:46:28It offers a serene escape into the natural world
00:46:31home to a diverse array of flora and fauna
00:46:34it is a thriving ecosystem
00:46:37that invites exploration
00:46:40meandering trails
00:46:43winding through lush woodland
00:46:46open meadows around ponds
00:46:49provide an ample opportunity to observe the abundance of local wildlife
00:46:52in its natural habitat.
00:46:55We're the only thing to enjoy a leisurely stroll
00:46:58for indulgence and quiet reflection
00:47:01the site does something for everyone and is fully accessible to all.
00:47:04Areas have been improved
00:47:07driven by a team who are committed to involving local community
00:47:10and schools in their mission
00:47:13to provide a place for everyone who will want to visit.
00:47:16Seasonal events make it an educational and mission destination
00:47:19for all ages.
00:47:22The site has continual diversity
00:47:25it shall enable us to assess the year on year
00:47:28some cruisers are where this place may be
00:47:31you will see some very impressive traditional heads laying
00:47:34if you're walking through
00:47:37you would be able to see a castle
00:47:40you may well see a wooden man on a bench
00:47:43tied into good laces
00:47:46I'm sure many of you will have guessed by now
00:47:49now you know the place it's time to make a war
00:47:52for such a positive contribution
00:47:55to protecting, conserving and enhancing the natural environment
00:47:58and it would be right to contribute the award
00:48:01to just one individual at this site
00:48:04as all of their successful environmental achievements
00:48:07are the result of a great team effort
00:48:10so I have a great honour
00:48:13in awarding the John Woods Environmental Award 2024
00:48:16to
00:48:19Rithland Nation Reserve

00:49:35and Jim will present
00:49:38the Norman Stewart Award
00:49:41for 2024 to Norman Stewart
00:49:44Thank you John
00:49:47I've known this person for many years
00:49:50and I've always found him very approachable
00:49:53enthusiastic and passionate about his job
00:49:56Since 2010
00:49:59this person has been the driving force
00:50:02behind a regular Bloom entry
00:50:05he has demonstrated unwavering commitment
00:50:08passion and dedication
00:50:11not only to the improvement of his hometown
00:50:14but also to the wider Wales in Britain in Bloom initiatives
00:50:17He often explains that the Bloom competition
00:50:20provides an ongoing incentive
00:50:23to strive for improvement year on year
00:50:26he believes it is the perfect deadline
00:50:29to ensure his local community
00:50:32is looking at its best
00:50:35ahead of the all important tourism season
00:50:38He has led the local team successfully
00:50:41over the last 14 years
00:50:44no matter what else he has got going on
00:50:47personally and professionally
00:50:50He underestimates the impact
00:50:53that his leadership has had on the local community
00:50:56It is clear that he has been responsible
00:50:59for significant developments in his town
00:51:02and has plans for further improvements
00:51:05Ever since being a teenager
00:51:08he has been a community champion
00:51:11and actively involved locally
00:51:14He has never been one to showcase his personal achievements
00:51:17His drive, attention to detail
00:51:20and desirable affection means
00:51:23that he cannot rest until every last post sticker
00:51:26has been removed
00:51:29He has even trained his sons to look and speak
00:51:32Seeing the improvements he was able to achieve with Bloom
00:51:35and the difference it made in civic pride
00:51:38investment and tourism levels
00:51:41was one of the key drivers to why this individual
00:51:44became MP for his home town
00:51:47Even during his time in Parliament
00:51:50Bloom was an important annual event
00:51:53Whilst the town has entered the In Bloom campaign
00:51:56long before this person became involved
00:51:59it is only since that the town
00:52:02has started achieving real success
00:52:05The winner has put in years of hard work
00:52:08perseverance and shown a genuine love for our environment
00:52:11and the community they represent
00:52:14He has led the town to success in both Wales
00:52:17and Britain in Bloom
00:52:20winning gold and silver guild medals at the highest levels
00:52:23on many occasions
00:52:26This year despite the pressures of the general election campaign
00:52:29there was a very commendable entry
00:52:32Despite his continued involvement
00:52:35we understand that he enjoys spending time with his young family
00:52:38He also enjoys walking, travelling
00:52:41learning Spanish and doing DIY
00:52:44He is a member of the Royal College of GPs
00:52:47National Trust, Rotary and the campaign for the 11th of April
