00:00It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, to now declare
00:08today Ewan McGregor Day in Hollywood!
00:11Thank you very much.
00:14Now it's your turn.
00:17Okay, now I'll say a few words, yeah.
00:20Hello, everybody!
00:21Woo-hoo!
00:22Oh, goodness me, it's impossible to follow these two intros.
00:30But I'll try my very best.
00:32I just want to thank everybody, all of you, for coming today.
00:37I had absolutely no idea what it would feel like or what it would mean, but it's meaning
00:46a great deal and it feels very, very nice and very, yeah, I feel very touched by the
00:53whole thing.
00:55I'm so moved that I'm close to my old friend Carrie Fisher on the pavement here.
01:03That means a great deal to me, too.
01:05So I wanted to firstly thank, I played Iago once in Othello, which is the biggest role
01:12that Shakespeare ever wrote, and I could not remember this name.
01:17So I want to thank the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame Selection Committee,
01:24first of all, for making this happen.
01:27I want to thank Paramount Plus and Disney and Lucasfilm for sponsoring the event.
01:36I don't know exactly what that entails or what they did, but I'm really glad that they
01:40did it and I wanted to say thank you very much for doing it.
01:44Come on, son.
01:45Here we go.
01:46Yeah, all my team at UTA, Rich Klubeck, Jonathan, Caroline, Larry, Sam Stone, there's so many
01:59people to thank, Megan, Tori, thank you so much for everything, Liz Hemelstein.
02:04I've been working with Liz on my American accents, on every American accent I've done
02:08since I Love You, Philip Morris, I think, which is a long time.
02:13She's an amazing talent, really amazing.
02:16I wanted to do this all my life.
02:19Since I was just a little boy, I wanted to be an actor and I feel like that's what I
02:26was meant to do and I'm so blessed to be able to do it.
02:32I'm so blessed to be able to live a creative life because every day I get to work, I turn
02:40up and I get to create stories with all these amazingly creative people.
02:48Oh, I didn't thank you, Mike and Hayden, these creative people.
02:53Thank you so much for your beautiful words.
02:56Mike Mills is the actor's director.
02:58There's no greater experience than being an actor on your set because you let us free
03:06and it's the most beautiful experience.
03:09And Hayden, you're my brother and we've grown up in this crazy world together over these
03:18last however many years it's been, 20, 30 years, and I love you so much.
03:24But I get to come to work in the morning and I work with the most amazing creative people,
03:29makeup artists and costume designers and cinematographers and directors and producers and props people
03:38and we all come together and we exercise our creativity as a group to make something that's
03:47capable of changing the world, you know?
03:49That we make something that makes people feel and makes people think and therefore can make
03:56people change and I think that is the most amazing privilege to do that and I love it
04:03very much.
04:04I was very lucky to work with my daughter Clara here on a movie, a movie called Bleeding
04:11Love.
04:12I had a better title before but some less creative people changed it to Bleeding Love.
04:20Anyway, what a privilege.
04:22I got to play Clara's dad and be Clara's dad at the same time.
04:26It was an amazing thing and we made this movie that was super personal for us and to us and
04:33we put it out there in the world and I'm sure a lot of people are moved by it and touched
04:37by it and that was an amazing experience.
04:40I worked with my other daughter Esther who I just was visiting in Halifax in Nova Scotia.
04:46She's making a series up there and I was on set and re-inspired by watching her passion
04:53and enthusiasm for this thing that we do and her young cast that were around her and I
04:57came away feeling filled up by it and wanting more of it myself.
05:03I was really lucky to work with my favorite actress in the world, Mary Elizabeth Winstead
05:08who's also my wife.
05:16We made a beautiful piece of work together called Gentleman in Moscow and it was like
05:22everything I wanted acting to be, that piece of work embodies.
05:27Everything I think, the power of it and the beauty of it was encapsulated in that experience
05:32of working with you Mary.
05:33It was absolutely amazing, I'm so proud of it.
05:37My other two daughters who are not actors are here, Anouk who's too young to be one
05:41yet who's an amazing human being, I don't know what you're going to be but we'll find
05:48out.
05:49Jamyan, my beautiful daughter Jamyan.
05:54I'm not going to be acting with Jamyan because Jamyan's going to be a homicide detective.
06:02She is cutting her own path and we're so proud of you Jamyan for everything that you're
06:06doing and the things that you're going to do with your life.
06:08And my little boy Laurie down here, Laurie.
06:13This is Laurie McGregor, do you want to say hello to everybody?
06:20So with that being said, I had something that I was going to wrap up this with and now I've
06:26totally forgotten what that might have been.
06:31I just don't remember what I was going to say other than just to thank you all for this
06:38great honour.
06:39It's really, I cannot believe, it's been my home here since 2008 Los Angeles but longer
06:47than that really because I dreamt of it, I dreamt of the movies and I'm so blessed to
06:54be in them.
06:56I don't feel any differently about being in them than I did when I was first starting
06:59out.
07:00I used to sit and watch when I was a child on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon with my
07:05chin propped up on my elbows and I hunger for old Hollywood movies of the 40s and the
07:1130s and British movies, Ealing comedies, just anything.
07:16I wanted movies in my life more than I wanted kids shows or anything like that from a really
07:20young age and I'm just so happy to be part of the world.
07:24I'm happy to be a creative person, happy to be an artist and I love it very much and
07:31I love you all very much too.
