00:00Glasgow is now the second Scottish council to introduce a ban on fireworks in certain areas
00:05of the city around Bonfire's Neck. From the 1st to the 10th of November, a new firework control
00:10zone will be placed on Pollock's Shields, meaning anyone setting off fireworks in both public and
00:16private spaces will be committing a criminal offence. The council identified the Southside
00:21neighbourhood as having faced the most serious firework-related antisocial behaviour. They are
00:26also considering a city-wide ban which will be the subject of an upcoming public consultation.
00:32The ban will include all types of fireworks, excluding sparklers, where those found to break
00:37legislation could face six months in prison or a fine of up to £5,000. Police Scotland have said
00:44Bonfire Night is one of the busiest nights of the year for fire crews and they will be visiting
00:49schools to educate young people on the dangers of firework misuse over the coming weeks. Signs will
00:56be placed around the zone to inform people of the ban.
