Fireworks can frighten animals and sometimes lead to injuries. We asked people in Birmingham whether fireworks should be restricted to organised displays — or if people should still be able to set them off at home.

00:00Yeah, I think organised displays is the way forward because obviously people around railways set them off at three o'clock in the morning and that's no good for the animals or young children. It's just not fair on people, is it?
00:14I think probably the thing that they need to do is probably regulate who gets them more than they do because I live in Bearwood and there are fireworks that go off. Obviously at the moment with a festival like Diwali or an event like Bonfire at Night, I think it's acceptable for people to buy them but maybe there needs to be more regulation outside of that time because they're set off so much and I can say it does really scare animals.
00:41I live in Portsmouth and it's really densely populated so we live really close together so you can't have firework displays because it's too dangerous and to go to a big display is great but equally if you've got the space and the safety and the common sense to do it safely, maybe you should be allowed to. It's about having a choice and being safe. The problem is we're not all safe.
