Actor Idris Elba teams up with Keir Starmer to tackle knife crime

The Luther star is part of a coalition including experts and families of knife crime victims, to help tackle the issue.

00:05aimed at halving it over the next decade.

00:08Hollywood star Idris Elba joined Sakhir Stalmer and experts including police, technology companies

00:14and victims' families to attend the first meeting of a coalition to tackle the issue.

00:20The project aims to stop young people from being dragged into violent gangs and will

00:25hold annual meetings to work towards reducing knife crime, which is now the most common

00:30method of homicide in England and Wales.

00:34Speaking after the first session, LutherStar and knife crime campaigner Mr Elba said the

00:39talks had been a step in the right direction.

00:42The 51-year-old actor, whose Elba Hope Foundation is part of the new anti-knife crime coalition,

00:48said it was important to hear from all those touched by violent crime so they could be

00:53joined up thinking.
