With Cowboy builders becoming more of a problem in the UK, we hit the streets of Manchester to ask people if they would know what to do if they encountered work that they were unhappy with.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking

00:03people about cowboy builders. And the reason for that is we've seen a 50% increase in the

00:07amount of cowboy builders operating in the UK and the amount of plants about it too.

00:11Yeah, no, I've fortunately had good luck, but I understand the draw to try and accomplish

00:18things as cheaply as possible.

00:20Like, because there's such a shortage of housing and accommodation, it's kind of like, people

00:24just take it, you have to kind of go with it.

00:26It's that or have nowhere to live.

00:27I suppose like proper cowboy building though, like, I don't know that I could front them

00:32or anything.

00:37Do you know, it's very easy to get somebody in.

00:38Yeah, you can be, you know, have your street smarts and be clued up, but I wouldn't say

00:41it's ingrained in society here to kind of know what those routes are.

00:45The onus is very much on the individual to do your due diligence and understand what

00:49your rights are.

00:50But I think there probably is a room for some citizen education there.

00:53There's no information out there to say, well, that's the difference between a proper

00:56contractor.
