00:57The 1981 Springbok tour is announced, and the whole of New Zealand turns against each

01:02On one side, there are the Maori people who are against segregation laws and also fighting
01:06for their rights, and then there are the rugby supporters and the government.
01:10Josh is torn apart between his responsibilities and his own dreams.
01:14When he has to stay silent to protect his family.
01:17How does Josh get into acting?
01:20Josh's English teacher, brother Madigan, offers Josh a chance to participate in a low-key
01:24drama club he's started during lunch.
01:27Josh is reluctant at first, saying he's busy, but the stage pulls him back.
01:31When Josh performs a monologue almost effortlessly, his brother Madigan is delirious and wants
01:36him to apply to NIDA, an Australian drama school.
01:39Josh's mother, Shirley, is against the idea, and she asks him to stop pursuing a career
01:43where there's not much prospect of making money.
01:46Shirley ensures that Josh is asked to be a part of the rugby team at school when his
01:49injured maverick brother is asked to co-coach the team.

01:54Josh's Samoan friend Grace gets involved in a silent protest against the South African
01:59team's rugby tour.
02:00The protesters want the New Zealand government to cancel the tour and return the land of
02:04the Maoris, which they were robbed of.
02:07The Maoris gather at the Old Hall, where they hold peaceful meetings to discuss the movement.
02:11A fellow protester, Samantha, interrupts a school rugby game to raise her voice against
02:16the injustice.
02:17She's booed off the field by the spectators, and the divide between the natives and the
02:21white people is clear as daylight.
02:24Grace asks Josh to help with the movement and record their rally of protest.
02:28A hesitant Josh would rather steer clear of it.
02:31What happens in the Maori protests?
02:33Josh changes his mind and hesitantly asks brother Madigan for his camera to shoot the
02:38protests.
02:39Madigan and Josh talk about the protests, and Josh asks Madigan his viewpoint on them.
02:44Madigan confesses that he's a silent protester, working behind the scenes, only for him to
02:48correct his words and say he's a coward.
02:51Madigan will lose his job if he's seen taking part in the protest, as Principal Slane is
02:55against it.
02:57Josh marches into the rally with his camera, and he notices the struggles of the Maoris

03:02The police block the way to the field with batons and shields.
03:06Maoris roar and perform the haka chant in its full glory.
03:09Josh looks at his people doing their war cry to take back what's rightfully theirs.
03:14The police inflicts a heavy baton charge on the protesters, and Samantha's wise grandmother,
03:18Tue, gets badly injured in the process.
03:21Josh takes a hit and falls to the ground, struggling to find his glasses in the middle
03:25of a road full of violent cops and running protesters.
03:28Grace saves Josh, and they manage to escape.
03:31Josh gets into trouble when his face at the protest is printed on the front page of a
03:35newspaper.
03:36Does Josh manage to play on the rugby team?
03:39In the second-last game of the season, the St. Gilberts find themselves in a losing game.
03:44When a main-team player gets injured, Jamie subs Josh in.
03:47Jamie recently got contact lenses for Josh, and he tells Josh to go into the field and
03:52enjoy himself.
03:53Jamie is a former rugby superstar and a supportive big brother to Josh.
03:58Josh performs exceptionally well to everybody's surprise, and St. Gilberts make it to the
04:02finals.
04:03Madigan comes to pick Josh up for the auditions, but Josh gives it up.
04:08What happens to the old hall?
04:10Grace bangs on Josh's door, crying.
04:13The old hall is set on fire.
04:15After the game, Coach Boulevard invited the lads for beer, and some of them were known
04:19to be anti-Maoris.
04:21This incident shakes Josh up.
04:23Josh runs to his brother Madigan and requests that he shoot his audition tape for the drama
04:27school.
04:28A proud Maori now, Josh performs an exceptional monologue followed by the Haka chants.
04:33The school refuses to take the tape into consideration because of the deadline, but Madigan does
04:37a smart thing.
04:39Madigan goes to Shirley to show her Josh's tape, and Shirley finally understands where
04:43her son's true potential lies.
04:46Shirley takes Josh to the beach, where she and her late husband would come to take a
04:49breath.
04:50Josh and Shirley bridge the gap between them.
04:53Meanwhile, Principal Slane orders everyone to support Boulevard's alibi.
04:58Boulevard vouched for the students and claimed none of them left his house during the incident.
05:02This incident moves Josh's conscience, and he starts to see the root of the racism.
05:07What happens in the final game of the season?
05:09The final game of the St. Gilberts falls on the same day as the final game between
05:13the Springboks and All Blacks.
05:16Josh decides to step up and refuses to play.
05:19He sits right in the middle of the field as an angry crowd demands to get him off the
05:22field.
05:24Shirley has understood by now that her son is right, and she joins Josh too.
05:28Jamie follows his family, as do Madigan and a few of the other players on the team.
05:33Principal Slane's cry for help is a bit too racist, and Jamie shows him his place.
05:38When Slane tells Jamie that his father would be ashamed, Jamie replies that he never treated
05:42them as anything more than a rugby player.
05:45The match gets canceled despite Slane's vain efforts, and Josh gets a win for all the Natives.
05:50Jamie tells the police that he might get a few of the team members to go against Boulevard's
05:54statement.
05:55Uproar shows the way for every awkward teenager who might find themselves lonely and worthless.
06:00Josh's coming out of his shell leads others to follow him, and that's how resistance begins.
06:05The Grammy tour returns from the hospital safe and sound, and Josh's family helps the
06:09Maori people restore the old hall.
06:12Madigan's earnest efforts to boost Josh's confidence are heartwarming to see, it's a
06:15token of love for a student from his teacher.
06:18History remembers the Maoris as the ones who fought for their rights, and the Makers really
06:22poured their hearts out for this one.
