00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of The Hatchet-Wielding
00:04Hitchhiker, so, let's begin.
00:07The Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker is a documentary film about a transient named Kai, who in the
00:11space of a few months went from being a viral internet sensation to being accused of murder,
00:15spoilers for film's ending follow.
00:18The documentary starts by introducing us to Jessup, a reporter for the local news in Fresno,
00:23California.
00:24One day, just like any other day, he is sent to cover the daily news.
00:29This is the first time Jessup does this as he was mainly a sports reporter at the time.
00:34So he goes to the streets and finds this car accident where a man was saying very racist
00:38things while also claiming he was Jesus Christ.
00:40When Jessup arrives on the scene, he finds out that the woman is safe thanks to the involvement
00:44of a young man who is clearly homeless.
00:47Jessup approaches this young man and asks if he can give an interview.
00:51The young man accepts and the result is one charming interview.
00:55The young man, named Kai, explains how he saw that the man was about to crack the woman's
00:59neck and so he picked up his hatchet and smashed it against the man until he released her.
01:04The police, of course, arrive soon at the scene and the man was arrested.
01:08However, the interview was so charming and Kai came out of it so well that soon everyone
01:13was talking about him.
01:15Later that day, Jessup did something that would change everything for Kai and for him
01:19as well.
01:20He decided to upload the entire interview that they had recorded with Kai on YouTube.
01:25The next day, when Jessup wakes up, the entire world has changed and the video has gone viral.
01:31Kai has become a hero on the internet and Jessup's email account is full as he is the
01:35only person who knows how to contact Kai.
01:38Everyone wants an interview with Kai or offers him deals and such.
01:42Jessup tracks Kai and they have a new interview just as charming as the first one.
01:46TV producers get involved as Jessup explains to Kai that now he is famous, really famous,
01:51and there are many options on the table for him.
01:54He might be able to go to Jimmy Kimmel's show, have a reality show, and do many more things.
01:59Kai has the opportunity to change his life.
02:02Sadly, he steps away from it and what happens later is even sadder.
02:07Why is Kai in jail?
02:09Kai became famous very quickly.
02:12He was often recognized on the streets and this opened the door for people to be very
02:15kind to him.
02:17However, it was evident that Kai was more than just a kind and innocent-looking guy.
02:22There was a darkness in him and it was not pretty at all.
02:25Kai proved to be a drunk and he also couldn't really focus on anything.
02:29His lack of attention to things made it clear that working with him on a TV show would have
02:33been impossible.
02:35Producers still tried but nothing really came to light.
02:38It wasn't much later when things started to come out.
02:41Kai said he didn't have a family but in reality, he does, including a mother who is
02:45currently alive.
02:47It seems that he had a very harsh childhood and decided to leave his home very early.
02:52Kai is a musician and a talented one at that.
02:55But his personality was aggressive and his lack of manners would make other people uncomfortable.
03:00It seems that Kai had lived so long on the streets that he might have forgotten how to
03:04treat people, if he ever had in the first place, of course!
03:08Jessup and other people involved with Kai and his heroic event were contacted just three
03:12months later when the police from New York were looking for Kai as he was the prime suspect
03:17in a murder case.
03:19People were not surprised because it was clear that there was rage inside Kai.
03:23It seems that Kai ends up killing an old man named Joe who bought him a train ticket some
03:27days before.
03:28Kai declares that he was drugged and raped by the old man and that his reaction was violent
03:33but Kai never denied that he did attack the man.
03:36Kai is now in prison for murder and he still claims he was raped and drugged and that he
03:40should be given the chance to claim that it was self-defense.
03:43Kai was eventually sentenced to 57 years of prison and in 2021, his attempts to appeal
03:48his conviction were rejected.
03:51Kai continues to stand by his assertion that he was acting in self-defense.
03:55That's all for now folks.
03:57I would appreciate it if you could give the video super thanks with a thumbs up and subscribe
