The Baltic Triangle has been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods.
00:06
The once industrial area has even been accused of gentrification but there is one place which
00:11
has been a mainstay here for decades.
00:13
Pilgrim's Progress has been on Bridgewater Street for 40 years.
00:17
The three-floor warehouse is situated in a converted 19th century cotton merchant's
00:22
and is in Aladdin's cave of furniture and other collectible items.
00:26
I mean I can't see any point in buying new where you can buy a good piece of old furniture
00:32
usually cheaper and certainly far better made or it wouldn't still be here 100 years later.
00:39
Liverpool Film Office has been running for 35 years and Selwyn has been part of the productions
00:44
that use our city as a backdrop.
00:46
We do a lot of props for films so you need a range of bits and pieces to use in different
00:52
period settings whether it be early period or whether it be 20s, 30s, 50s, 70s.
01:00
So I tend to have a few bits of each period which if somebody was furnishing a set they'd
01:06
be able to come here and I'd be able to loan them to them or they'd buy them often I just
01:10
loan furniture.
01:11
As well as selling on antique pieces, in his workshop Selwyn restores heirlooms to their
01:16
former glory.
01:18
Most of the restoration I do nowadays has sentimental value.
01:22
It belonged to a father, a grandfather, an uncle, an aunt, it gets passed through the
01:26
family and people want it restored and I've had my share of people getting quite emotional
01:32
when I've restored something and it brings back memories.
01:35
And for decades on it doesn't seem like Selwyn has any plans of slowing down.
01:40
My favourite part is people.
01:42
I still love it, I still find things interesting.
01:44
I think when I stop being interested then I will retire but there's still an interest,
01:49
there's still quirky things, there's still interesting things and I'm still fascinated,
01:55
there's still something to learn all the time.
