00:06above and you more than held your own in that game and had moments in that game there, could

00:11have got something out of it really?

00:13Yeah, 100%. I think the boys are very disappointed. I'd say a good 90% of the game was all us,

00:19dominated every element of the game. It's just a shame, it was just a game of both boxes.

00:24We didn't defend the second goal well in terms of the set-piece from the wide area and also

00:28they had a free-kick which was deflected in. But prior to those sort of situations

00:33happening, we had good control of the ball and again, like I spoke about on Monday, slight

00:38little elements of naivety in certain decision-making from certain players. Obviously, again, they're

00:42young, they're not exposed to the level, so making those mistakes are okay as long as

00:47they learn from it and it just doesn't seem that we had learned from it from Monday. So

00:51we go back to the drawing board again, quickly again, a good thing as a game on Tuesday,

00:55a good thing as performances are there. We're going toe-to-toe with teams, even the team

00:59in the league above. They found it difficult to go up against us today, so it's good signs.

01:04Once we just eradicate all the silly little mistakes, we will be there again. We should

01:08be there on Tuesday.

01:09It's just tidying up both boxes really, isn't it? That's kind of the thing.

01:12Yeah, and that's the hardest thing too, so we'll get right. I mean, we had loads of chances

01:16today, should have put them all away. I think it was three 1v1s I carried between the first

01:21and the second half. Keeper made a few decent stops as well. I don't really think H had

01:25anything to do. He's had to pick the ball out of his back of the net three times. You

01:29look at that and it's all about those margins, unfortunately. So, yeah, that's something

01:33the boys just have to do better in.

01:35Yeah, I mean, at 1-0, Lambert's had a one-on-one save. Kai's gone through one-on-one save,

01:40you know. Real chances there.

01:42Real, real chances. Opportunities as well when we're 3v3 or we had 3v2s. We're just

01:47turning it down, just a sly little error in terms of just delaying our decision-making

01:51again, just allows them to recover. I lost count of how many half-chances we had to make

01:58them punish for their frail ways of defending, but at the end of the day, we just didn't

02:06punish them from it. So, yeah, we learned from it quickly.

02:09Obviously, their first goal, the free-kick's taken a massive deflection, which is just

02:13one of those, you can't really do much about that.

02:16I know. We had a couple of them. Even when we played Farnham, it was the same thing,

02:19where we can't always affect the second ball, it's all based on chance. But when you get

02:24a free-kick where it's going wide and it hits someone and goes in, it's just disorientating.

02:30But the boys really dug deep and they pushed in. They showed a lot of character, which

02:34is something I can't not give them credit for. But, yeah, it's good work.

02:39I'd say you responded well to that, because you did have all those chances at 1-0 and

02:43plenty of pressure, so it didn't knock you.

02:45No, it didn't. We've got quite a resilient group. There's a difference in showing now,

02:50where previously we'd probably crumble a little bit and fall away. We actually stayed in the

02:54game and it enabled us to still push and push and push. And then they obviously got one

03:01and killed the game off from the break. But, yeah, that's how tough it is.

03:04At half-time at 1-0 and very much in the game with those chances, what was the message?

03:10The message was just keep faith, just keep doing what we're doing and also not panicking

03:14as often as we had been in the first 10, 15 minutes. We gave them too much respect

03:17in terms of in possession for us, where we felt they would probably press us a bit more

03:21being a team a level above. But once they did the first one and we played through the

03:25press, then they sort of started dropping off. And then we went just trying to just

03:29get in behind them and being desperate. But it was just a case of just controlling the

03:32game as we did. And we started opening them up, getting these chances. It's just unfortunate,

03:36little error. They get set-piece, ball in the back of the net, game's done. So it's tough.

03:41Yeah, that second goal from that set-piece, that really was, sort of, did really sort

03:45of seal it for them, didn't it?

03:47Yeah. I mean, we've been defending our box really well. This is something this group

03:50of lads have got better than last year's group, where we defend our 18-yard box quite well

03:54in set-pieces. I think it's the first one we've conceded in about five or six games.

03:57So, you know, I'll take that if it's a one-off. But like I said, the free-kicks shouldn't

04:03have happened. We had good possession of the ball and support decision-making. And yeah.

04:09And obviously, they get the third instead of a shine. But at least you sort of keep

04:11going and get one back at the end there.

04:13100 per cent, yeah. We kept going and got one back, which was good. I don't think it

04:16was a 3-1 game for them. But we learn from it, I can keep saying, and we move on.

04:22Thoughts now on the quick turnaround, Binfield in the League Cup.

04:26Yeah, Binfield League Cup, another good opportunity to play. I think the Tuesday game will help

04:30us a lot in terms of recovery and going again very, very quickly. The fitness levels of

04:35the squad's there that I'd never have a problem with. Like today, we just kept going again.

04:39So yeah, Tuesday will be a good test, get a win. I think that was the good turning point

04:43for us last season, where I think we hadn't won until we played in the League Cup game

04:49against them again, got a good result, and then it kicked on our season.

04:52So I was hoping by the time we play them Tuesday, we'll be ready for it.

04:56And then obviously now, I think we're almost there.

04:58So hopefully Tuesday will be a good test and then we go again.
