00:00The thing I missed most was you.
00:03That's true. It's true. I miss you every day.
00:07I know, it's awful.
00:10I'm Winona Ryder.
00:11And I'm Jenna Ortega, and today we're going to let Elle ask us anything.
00:17Before we start, is there anything that either of you are dying to know about her?
00:21Oh my gosh.
00:22What?
00:23I feel like we've...
00:24We've covered all of those bases.
00:25Oh yeah, we've covered a lot of things together.
00:28Describe your style in three words. How?
00:31I don't know.
00:32Yeah.
00:33I've had the same things for years. All my pieces are so well-loved.
00:37I probably should get new ones.
00:39I often wear jeans and a t-shirt, but I get self-conscious that people are just going to think I'm wearing the exact same thing every day.
00:47Yeah, that's my problem though. I wear the same five articles.
00:50Right, right.
00:51I'm wearing a skirt today and that's a big deal.
00:53I feel like we're very similar that way.
00:55Yeah.
00:56The next question I have is what is your favorite red carpet look?
00:58I think Dior incredible dress that I wore to the Golden Globes.
01:04It was just super detailed and it was super comfortable.
01:08That becomes a big thing, you know?
01:11I mean, you can be talking to an absolute hero of yours, and if your feet are killing you, it really messes up the experience.
01:22Yes, it does.
01:23You know?
01:24That's so true because you're so in your head, you can't focus on what is being said because you just want to sit down.
01:30So that's become...
01:34That's so true. That is so true.
01:37What's your first memory of Beetlejuice?
01:40My mom once dressed as a crayon box and all me and my five siblings were different colored crayons.
01:45So for four or five years of my life, I was a different colored crayon for Halloween.
01:49And I saw people dressed up as your guys' wedding outfit.
01:53I saw Lydia in the red dress and everything.
01:56And I remember thinking it was really cool, but being a little bit scared by Beetlejuice's makeup.
02:00Right.
02:01It's a good costume. It's an easy, super...
02:03Really great costume idea. I like that crayons.
02:07No, but also the other one.
02:11When we were making that movie, we had no idea what it was going to become.
02:17But I have seen people, and I know you have too with Wednesday.
02:22Seeing people dress up like you is a wild, wild thing.
02:27What's a hobby of yours that would surprise people?
02:29I don't know if this is a hobby, but I do love Columbo.
02:33Like episodes of old detective shows from that era.
02:37Just because it's new in my life right now. I'm a mother right now.
02:40I've got three chinchillas.
02:42So I guess maybe my hobby is trying to get my chinchillas to come out of their cage and lay on my chest while I read a book.
02:50What makes you gravitate towards the horror genre?
02:54I don't think I gravitate towards it. I feel like it gravitates towards me.
02:58I keep doing these horror movies, but it's not intentional. It just happens to be what comes my way.
03:03I guess I have a deep appreciation for the genre, so I think I probably, without realizing it subconsciously, am reading a script.
03:11I'm drawn.
03:12I'm not interested in this. Just waiting for gore. It's just cool.
03:16Yeah.
03:17What was your first job?
03:19Well, I wasn't really paid, but my dad worked in an antiquarian bookstore that was high scale.
03:27He cataloged the first known love letter that was on an Egyptian leaf.
03:33And I got to work in the mail room.
03:36They taught me how to properly package books to send.
03:41But I wasn't paid maybe like a quarter or 50 cents, you know, which felt like such a big deal.
03:50Or an extra rollo.
03:52How do you decompress after a taxing scene?
03:57I feel like I just sit and stare at a wall.
03:59Like, what can you do?
04:01You work these full long days, and then you're being called again early in the morning.
04:05Do you go home, learn your lines for the next run, and go to bed?
04:08I feel like maybe because I started when I was so young.
04:11Me too.
04:12You're just trained to understand.
04:14We're so trained.
04:16It's funny because oftentimes the scene that you would anticipate being taxing isn't taxing at all.
04:21It's the really simple scene that takes eight hours for no reason.
04:24I know.
04:25Three pages.
04:26But I don't really do much to decompress.
04:28I mean, I like to go for walks or do anything like that to clear my mind.
04:32I'll listen to music, and I'll go for a long walk.
04:34And that's probably the best answer I could give you because it's pretty plain.
04:40What's the best career advice you've ever received?
04:42Don't do it just because it's a paycheck.
04:45I very specifically remember being offered a movie.
04:49I don't want to say what it was.
04:50It was like the first time I was ever offered a larger sum of money.
04:54And I was getting a lot of pressure to do it because it would establish your, you know.
04:59If you're not into it, you're not into it.
05:01Something that really helped me.
05:03I used to think when I, especially when I was a teenager,
05:07that there was this sort of school of thought where you had to suffer to be a good actress.
05:15And you had to know what that felt like.
05:17And you end up subconsciously doing that to yourself.
05:21I remember being told, you don't have to do that.
05:25Like, you know, that was like very liberating.
05:30I remember I kind of learned that through therapy.
05:32That you, that it's valid, you know.
05:36It is valid.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Which actors inspired you to pursue your career?
05:41Well, the initial one that I always say is Dakota Fanning and Denzel Washington
05:45because I watched Man on Fire as a child.
05:47Right, I remember this.
05:48Dakota was working before Elle.
05:51Yes, she was.
05:52And she went to school and she was a Girl Scout.
05:56Really?
05:57And she like had this normal life, which made me really happy.
06:01I think she turned something down because it conflicted with her Girl Scout situation.
06:05They're such nice girls.
06:06I think it's probably a testament to how normal they are.
06:09We love you, Fanning girls.
06:10We love the Fanning sisters.
06:11Yeah.
06:12What did you miss most about your Beetlejuice character?
06:15When I did the first one, I kind of, I was so similar to Lydia.
06:20I actually recently found a picture of me and my brother a month before I auditioned.
06:26And I looked exactly the same.
06:28I had like the L'Oreal blue-black hair.
06:32Right.
06:33But this last one, the thing I missed most was you.
06:38It's true.
06:40It's true.
06:41I miss you every day.
06:43I know.
06:44It's awful.
06:45It's a terrible thing to know you now because I never get to see you.
06:49I know.
06:50What is your dream role?
06:52I would love to direct.
06:54I would love to do something else with you.
06:56I don't know.
06:58I think if it's just an interesting script and interesting character.
07:00We've talked about the Safdie brothers.
07:02Yeah.
07:03We've talked about Jim Jarmusch.
07:04So I don't know if it's about specific.
07:06Actually, now that I'm saying this, I don't think it's really specific roles.
07:09Yeah, it's more with the people.
07:11Yeah.
07:12It's so crazy.
07:13We have like the same taste.
07:15Yeah, it's very strange.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Well, thank you so much for watching.
07:20That's all we have.
07:21Be sure to go watch our movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
07:23Please.
07:24It's really good.
