Today, I'm going to be following Yorkshire Tea's five steps to making the perfect cup of tea.
00:05
Hi, I'm Holly Alton and I'm a food and drink writer for National World.
00:09
I'm known for not making the most excellent cup of tea, so I'm going to give this a go
00:13
and see if I can actually make a great cup of tea following their steps.
00:17
First of all, treat your water kindly.
00:20
And what that means is you should run the tap a little before popping it into your kettle
00:24
and only boil it once.
00:26
And that is so that the water has enough oxygen.
00:30
Oxygen adds flavour, according to Yorkshire Tea.
00:37
Step number two, add tea and then water.
00:40
So what you have to do here is pop the teabag and then the hot water and stir briefly.
00:45
Step number three, wait patiently.
00:48
So rather than taking your teabag out of the cup straight away,
00:52
Yorkshire Tea recommends that you wait around four to five minutes before taking it out.
00:57
Step number four, give it a squeeze.
01:01
Yorkshire Tea recommends that you gently squeeze your teabag on the inside of the cup,
01:05
but only once, as smashing it too much can cause the tea to taste bitter.
01:10
Number five, customise your brew.
01:13
This is the part where you can add your milk, sugar, honey, anything you want to your tea.
01:18
It's now time to taste the tea and see if, by following Yorkshire Tea's rules for making the perfect cuppa, actually work.
01:32
Yes, I can definitely taste the difference.
01:34
It's stronger, and I think that might be because of the waiting four or five minutes to let it brew.
01:40
However, I did notice that you're only supposed to squeeze the teabag once on the side.
01:44
In force of habit, I did squeeze it more than once, so I can taste a little bit bitterness, so that does make sense.
01:53
However, I will definitely say that you should be following these rules to make the perfect cuppa,
01:57
because it does taste a lot better than my usual brew.
