Matt Porter from Porter Hill Tea Company, Byram Arcade, Huddersfield, talks to Yorkshire Post photographer, James Hardisty about their growing business and Tea experiences.

00:00 I'm Matt Porter and I own Porter Hill Tea Company with Tim.

00:05 We're based in Byram Arcade, Huddersfield,

00:08 which is a beautiful Victorian shopping center.

00:12 We started in 2021 and our aim is to sell

00:18 ethically sourced, all natural, luxury loose leaf teas

00:23 and herbal blends.

00:26 Everything being carbon offset and completely

00:31 natural ingredients, so no artificial ingredients whatsoever.

00:35 Currently we have about 50 to 70 teas, I'm not sure,

00:39 because every day we get a new tea in

00:42 and probably about 30 to 40 blends.

00:46 We make our own blends, we've got lots of

00:49 different ingredients, probably about 50

00:50 different ingredients now.

00:52 I was just looking at the shelf, we need to organize it.

00:55 But yeah, we just have a lot of fun doing tea tastings.

01:00 We've got herbal blending classes coming in 2024.

01:05 We do wholesale, we've got some amazing wholesale clients

01:10 and we sell online at porterhill.co.uk.

01:14 My name is Tim Knight, I work at Porter Hill Tea Company

01:16 and I lead their tea tastings.

01:18 What I've got here is a white tea,

01:20 which is the most unprocessed tea.

01:22 All tea, pretty much 99% comes from one leaf

01:26 and then through many different processes

01:28 you can have a range of teas.

01:29 So our tea tasting, we call it bud to cup.

01:32 So what we do, we start with this white tea,

01:34 which are lovely kind of buds and leaves.

01:38 And then we go into green tea and after green tea

01:40 we taste oolongs and finish with black tea.

01:43 And every evening we finish with a lovely

01:46 Sri Lankan tea from the finest tea estate, Lumbini,

01:50 where we enjoy it with a nice slice of tea loaf

01:52 made by Matt's mum.

01:54 Our tea tastings are really popular,

01:56 we've sold out three in a row now.

01:58 And they're a lovely, just kind of gentle evening.

02:01 You get to travel right around the world,

02:03 but from here in Byron Marquette.
