00:00It is the first honour of my life to stand before you today as the first woman to become
00:08the First Minister of Wales.
00:11Twenty-five years ago, we witnessed...
00:17Becoming the first female First Minister is an incredibly proud achievement for Eluned
00:20Morgan.
00:21And she says she hopes that there will be plenty more to follow her in the future.
00:27This is an historic day as a woman becomes the First Minister of Wales, for the first
00:33time in our history.
00:36Women watching today, you need to know your potential is limitless.
00:42The path to leadership is not now just a possibility, it's a reality.
00:48And I look forward to the day when a woman becoming First Minister is no longer extraordinary
00:54but a normal part of our Welsh political life.
00:58Eluned Morgan has held a number of positions within the Welsh Government through the years.
01:03And although people would have hoped that it would have gone much more smoothly under
01:06Vaughan Gething, the Welsh Labour Party will be keeping everything crossed, that they made
01:12the right decision this time around.
01:13For Ms Morgan, it's that stability in union that she says will be an important part of
01:18her tenure.
01:20As First Minister, I promise to champion voices and experiences which have too often been
01:26sidelined and silenced.
01:29To champion parts of Wales that too often feel like they're on the periphery, like my
01:32home in St David's in West Wales.
01:36No one will be left out.
01:39I extend my hand in gratitude and in genuine partnership to everyone in Wales.
01:46In a world where things that divide us are amplified and emphasised, sometimes for profit,
01:53I want to make it clear that I will be a listening First Minister.
